So your husband asked for the interview in English but got a Spanish translator too? Hmmm, maybe my spouse should do the same thing. He put down he wanted to do the interview in English. (He probably thought that might make him look better). I never thought about the having more time to think angle.

Also I guess it is a good idea for me to go as well? It seems that they might ask the sponsor questions too?
No he requested it in spanish. The officer was a canadian woman :)

I am the PA, I'm Andrew, Colombian. My wife is Canadian, her name is Juliana. The immigration officer asked me about 6 questions, yes, but the guy that asked me questions first asked me like 30 or more, I was in the interview booth with him for almost an hour or so. Two different people interviewed me at different times, one wasn't an IO and the other one was. First person to interview me did it in Spanish, and then he was with the IO for the second part of the interview, as an interpreter. The IO was Canadian, the other guy was Colombian. She was using interpreter but noticed I understood all she was saying (I was answering in English, without waiting for the interpreter to say things in Spanish) so she asked me if I wanted to do it in English and I said yeah. I think in my case it was important because one of their concerns was that my level of English was really high yet I have never left Colombia. I am sure they have a "quota" but I'd say it's for quality standards. They have to have interviews, specially in countries where people gain a lot by getting PR to Canada. I wouldn't know about the rehearsed thing, however I did notice that when I was answering questions, I didn't need any time to think about my answers, they'd just come out naturally because they were all true. Also, I think they really liked it that I was giving specific details, my answers were not just a "yes, we did that" but more like, "we did that because of this and that, and that day this happened". For example, they asked me how we kept the marriage going, and I said we tried to do all the things normal couples do, then gave her specific examples of how we do this. I mentioned how two days before the interview (this Monday) we watched a movie on the internet, and I told her the specific movie, and even that Tom Cruise was on it. I think that really makes a difference, if you provide specific details along with your answers, it will be easier to believe them.
They asked my husband if he wanted to continue in English also, even if his english is good, he said no. He did it in spanish to ensure he could fully express how he felt. That did not bother the canadian officer at all. She was a young canadian lady, the officer.
He was asked 20-30 questions, stuff like what we would do if we were refused, what are our compabilities, what tv show we watch, what was our last argument about, why my parents couldnt come to our wedding, to name a few.

Once he finished he came to get me and they interviewed me, i was asked 5-6 questions.

Then i was asked to bring my husband in and we were approved :)

Knowing english well and taking the time for the interpreter to translate to think of his answers worked well for him. Stress can cause memory blanks. Although he went in stress free he said lol Being honest and not just answering with just a yes or no. Elaborating, giving examples and feeling happy. It worked for us. I mean he was sick that day, we got home to him having a massive fever. I am surprised he did it all while being so ill.

They knew his English was good as he spoke in english with them before the interview started.

We are waiting for his passport to arrive now. :D

Thank you for the advice @majesty it' definitely something to consider
11000 km is a barrier for being together. As you are marrying someone else from the same faith, maybe that is an important consideration too. I am also about 11 000 km away from my partner. It is not easy to get together. I wish you guys luck with your interview and that get a positive result!

For everyone here who has been through the interview or about to go through it, I take it that the sponsor is not required to be there? It seems most sponsors also attend the interview too. How bad does it look if the sponsor doesn't attend the interview? Do you all feel it was important and made a definite difference that the sponsor attended the interview?

The sponsor is not required to be there. I don't think most sponsors attend the interview, I'd say it's the opposite, most don't. It doesn't look bad at all, they know it is hard to just book flights to go to an interview. Based on my experience, I don't think it was important at all, besides they usually focus more on the PA's side, when they question the genuineness of the relationship. From their point of view, it is vastly more likely that the PA would be in the marriage fraudulently than the sponsor, specially if the PA is from a country where he/she would gain a ton by immigrating to Canada. However, it is very personal, it may be better for you if the sponsor attends, maybe it wouldn't make a difference or maybe it would be for the worse. Sometimes they don't even call the sponsor to the interview booth, just interview the PA and let the sponsor wait outside.

Thanks for your response. My partner thinks it's not necessary for me to come, especially since I just came down to see him and it does cost a lot for me to come again and having to take time off work again. At that point, I didn't know that we were in queue for an interview. We hadn't seen each other for about 10 months, so it was time.

Be patient. Have you ordered your notes yet?
Yes, I had multiple times since then. My notes in September stated that the Security was under process with CBSA. The notes in December stated that the Security hasn't been started yet. Everything else was passed and completed.

I had just saw my husband too, and was not going to go. But after gathering more evidence and documents for the interview, it was not possible to mail him all that. It was easier for me to go there with him and also show my support.

It was an amazing experience.

Thanks. I will see what the notes say and then make a decision and also depending on when he actually gets the interview date. My partner thinks it's not necessary, but I wanted to check what others who have been through the experience thought about it.

If you do attend the interview, make sure you rehearse, because sometimes couples give different answers to the same question, and that of course can make it worse. IOs don't like this, obviously it is suspicious, specially when the answer should be one that's clear.

We didnt rehearse. We just answered truthfully. After the interview my husband and i compared our Q&A and realized we had the same answers... :)
you dont need to attend to run into that problem, a girl i know were denied, they interviewed her by phone she didn’t have to attend. He was too nervous and that made him mess up the questions.

I attended because it was much easier for my husband to have all what he needed to bring at the interview as i printed additional letters, a card signed by coworkers, new phone records, chat logs, pictures etc from canada and brought it all with me.

I am leaning towards not attending. My partner was saying to me this morning, he's so not nervous or afraid because he said our relationship is genuine and we have been together a long time. His mentality is like "bring it on"! LOL Maybe at the time, he'll get nervous, but I don't think it can be any worse than going through the IELTS exams, which he has taken twice. We will go over possible questions (like the ones on the list in this forum and I think ones that we think they might ask us as we know our red flags). He might think one thing and then I think something else or a missed detail or dates & names might trip him up too ... so better that we rehearse. I realize that they might call me if I don't attend. I'm sure they will ask me only a few questions whereas they will be asking him way more.
