Unemployed but planned to visit Canada

Hi,

I'm currently unemployed but have plans to visit my friends in Canada in March. I'm also underway to apply for my PR in a couple of months by Feb'18. Will my unemployment status be a hindrance to getting a Temporary Resident Visa? I'm kind of thinking what if they reject my application on this basis feeling that I'm going there to work (which I'm genuinely NOT) and not come back.

What ties can you demonstrate to your home country?

For example:
Are you studying? Do you own property or land? Do you have a good financial situation without borrowing from anyone? Are you married and/or have dependent family members? Have you traveled to countries like the US, UK, Schengen area, Australia or NZ?

Yes. I do have a dependent mother and property in my name back home. Also I've traveled to Australia in 2012. Also I'm submitting my bank statements with sufficient funds in them.

To be successful, you must prove you have compelling reasons to return to your home country.

What documents do you intend to submit?
Is your mom working/employed? Do you have any other siblings who can take care of your mom?
For how long did you visit Australia? Purpose of that visit?

IMO, regardless of the answers to these questions, you must seek/find employment + work for at least 6-8 months before you apply for a TRV

Well, i do have siblings who can take care of her. She's pretty old. Naah! She's is not working.

I did vstayed for 5 months on work in Aus.

Will they still reject me if i tell them that I'll be providing them my express entry profile number a month before i fly down to Canada?

Sorry...missed to answer the list of documents i intend to submit

• Letter of Invitation from my friend inviting me to Toronto
• My tax returns/filings for the past two years
• Six months Bank statement
• And my friend's PR status in canada
• His proof of funds and family list

You do not need to mention your intent to apply for Express Entry at all; it is completely irrelevant to your TRV application.

Sadly, I think your 5 months in Australia for work works against you--the VO will make the assumption that you plan to migrate to Canada (and they will actually be correct). You will still need to declare this as it happened in the last 5 years.

I have seen a few unemployed applicants get granted TRVs, but they go through the eye of the needle. IMO, the nature of your career/education/previous work will also be a factor in your application. If it is the type that can be done remotely, or is not financially lucrative, your chances of approval will be much lower. Not sure if this will help, but if I were in your shoes, I'd try to explain why I'm currently unemployed, how I will support myself on the trip, and my employment prospects in my country.

I recommend you do not apply for a TRV. Here's why:
1. You're not employed + not studying = No active ties to return home to

2. You have siblings that can take care of your mom when you're away

3. Your visit of 5 months to Australia was a long-stay (by visitor standards) even though it was for work. Hopefully you had a valid work visa for the work you did, and you did not work on an Australian visitor visa

4. You do not have any short visits to visa-required countries

5. Your EE profile/application for PR will be on IRCC's records = Intent to remain in Canada long-term by using a TRV

6. Not sure if your property is owned with someone else. If it is, your property is not a tie. In any case, property is not an active tie to return to

7. Your unemployment will work against you if you have been out of work for 2+ months. It would have been different if you were between jobs and you have taken a short sabbatical.

Like I had suggested earlier, IMO, you must attempt a TRV only after you have worked at a new employment for at least 6-8 months (to prove your employment ties are stable). Chances of a TRV refusal are very high if you apply in your present situation
