Day Care for kids

Dear ALL,

We are in Montreal as Refugees and waiting for work permit. My Son is 3 year old and i really looking for him to get into Day care to be social and learn french.

when i visited few day care they said one of the parent should work before the gov can pay on our behalf .

work permit will take a bit long and we have no money to pay for his fees.


any suggestion where to get help

I already register for my self . But for my Son he can only be going to Nursery till he is 5 year old

Unfortunately you will have to wait. Subsidized daycare is used to encourage parents to work. Surprised you would get your fees covered with only one parent working. Are you sure they pay the whole fee and that you don't just qualify for a subsidized spot? You'll have to find a subsidized spot that is available though or go on a wait list.

Don't think you could join a wait list until you qualify. Just telling you that although you qualify for highly subsidized (not free) daycare there are only so many spots so you may have to wait until there is a spot available. You should ask you local daycare providers that offer subsidized spots about availibility. Thais all may take a while depending on the demand in your area. Some daycare are private and you would have to pay out of pocket. If you want your child to socialize go to the park and ask if there are any free drop-in programs in the area. There are also often free programs at the library.
