How much time I have to move to Canada?

Dear all, after receiving ITA, I applied for immigration visa (in September) and since then I have been waiting for final decision. If I get the permanent residence visa, when I should move to Canada? I have been told that I should move within a year, but I am not sure if that year is counted since the date I applied or since the date I get the final decision or visa in my passport. It is important to me because I need to finish some stuff home before moving and also to spend enough time with my loved ones :)

Usually you'd have to land before the date of your medicals or your passport expiry date, whichever date is earlier.

What happens if either of those expire? Do we need to go through the whole ITA process again?
Not clear what you mean, but if you are approved as a PR, you will receive a document called a "Confirmation of Permanent Residence" (COPR) that will indicate the date by which you must land. As noted above, this date usually corresponds to 1 year from the date you took your medical exam; if your passport will expire before then, then that date becomes the deadline by which to land (which is a good reason to renew your passport before you get to the COPR stage, if it will expire soon).

If you do not complete your landing before the deadline on your COPR, your PR becomes invalid and yes - in that case, you would have to start all over.

If you decide to start all over again, can you reapply before the COPR expiry date? For example COPR expires in March 2018 but you are unable to land by then can you (assuming ITA received) reapply in Jan 2018 instead (2 months prior to actual COPR expiry date)?

Alternatively, you can do a "soft landing", i.e., only visit Canada for a few days (before your CoPR expires) to activate your PR, return to your home country to settle all affairs, then return back to Canada to start the new life.

The only limit after you activated your PR is that you must meet your residency obligations, i.e., spending no less than 2 years for every 5 years in Canada.

No, you have to wait for COPR to expire. You can't apply for something you already have.
