What to do when you know you won't meet deadline for some document?

As the title says, what should I do? Should I inform the officer immediately, and how? Or should I wait until the deadline, and then inform the officer? again, how?

My particular case is for PCC document that was requested after AOR, and was given 60 days to submit it. I realized, it is almost impossible, and it will take at least 3 months to get it. But the question is general, and I think others in similar cases can benefit from the answer.

Thank you for your advice in advance.

i think this advice has already been shared to upload in its place proof you requested it and a receipt for example for your order and then once you get it send it as a CSE

You wait 1 day or Two days before the deadline and upload LOE stating the reasons for not getting the document in the expected timeframe. And upload every supporting document you have to support your LOE. Support Docs Include: Receipt that you applied for particular doc, Mail response from the office where you applied etc.

If your reasons are valid then you will get extension.
