Ok, so I have had a flight booked to visit my partner in Canada for four weeks at Christmas before we even applied for spousal visa/PR.
I take it it's still ok to travel? I have an eTA as we are visa exempt. Is it wise to take a letter from an employer or something to say they are expecting me back on such a date or would I be ok as I can prove when they were booked etc etc?

I was adivsed here to get as much info as you could such as return flight ticket, hotel confirmation, car rental, recent bank statement from your country and anything that shows you still have a strong tie with your country...

All I can get is my return flight and letter from employer. I don't get bank statements as all done online, plus a bank statement proves very little in my eyes. I have no need to rent a car or stay in a hotel so guess that's the best I can do

Just print the online statement, it's worth more than you think, it shows you have assets in your country. Any bill, car insurance is also valuable. You probably won't need it but it'll make you feel prepared and show the officer you know the rules.
