Hi all,

I submitted my application yesterday, and it was signed for this morning. YAY! I applied OUTLAND common-law, but I'm currently living in Canada (and have for 3 years).

I want to go ahead and get the RCMP check so it's ready when they request it. I am wondering if anyone can give any advice based on their experience? Did you go to your local police station or an accredited company?

I've read over the website (http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/steps-obtain-certified-criminal-record-or-vulnerable-sector-vs-check) and understand the process, just looking for some inside information/personal experiences to get it ASAP!

I've already got the one for my home country!

Thank you!

Accredited company, check and prints. Done in Ottawa, received in a matter of days after we were there.

One thing to note though is not everyone seems to get a request for n RCMP check. My husband has lived in Canada for a decade which is why he was. Alot of members will say CIC does their own Canadian check, but it wasn't true for us, and it seems more and more are getting the request but not everyone.

I wouldn't worry about doing it in advance, we did it as soon as we got the request and it was super fast.

My husband has been in Canada since December on a visitor visa and in July it was requested. we went to the accredited location in etobicoke and had it back and scanned to CIC wtihin 5 business days... SUPER quick.. but i would wait to see if they request it as prior poster said... dont waste your money and remember they are only valid for so long

My wife has been in Canada several years and didn't get any request for a Canadian police check (at least yet, but she has all ready had the letter requesting Schedule A/Police Check). I assumed they don't ask for Canadian check as they (or at least CBSA) would be the first ones to know if you had got into trouble with the police in Canada.

Many people assume this but it turns out it's incorrect. We got the RCMP check a few weeks after the other requests. I don't know if it's in part random or if someone else has the same name as you, etc. I don't understand the criteria for who needs one and who does not.

I see, will see what happens then but I guess no point getting one done unless requested.

Good morning!

We did my husband's RCMP check, with his finger prints taken in Honduras, via the company XL-ID solutions ( https://xl-id.com) . The 2 times we had to deal with them, it was super easy, fast and efficient.

Hope this helps you

Have a nice day

I wonder if you can't just go to an RCMP detachment if you are in Canada already. You can always just go and enquire if you can get it done there ... as I thought I heard that they have a machine that can scan your fingerprints directly. If not, then you will have to go through an accredited company to scan the paper fingerprints.
