Do I need to inform CIC about pregnancy?

Hi Experts,

We've received COPR today with an expiration date of 1-April 2018.

My wife is currently pregnant with expected due date of Jan 2018.

Both my wife and I are already in Canada on Work Permits since the last 1 year.

Do we need to inform CIC about the pregnancy before landing? Any advise on this would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Jiten.

When do you plan to land? Conditions will only change if your child is born before you land. But since she/he will likely be born in Canada it would not impact at all since he/she would be Canadian citizen.

We plan to land sometime in December. So my wife will be definitely be visibly pregnant. Not sure if that is an issue at the immigration desk, therefore wondering if there is a formal need to inform CIC about this?

You can always update them about anything you feel like you should but being pregnant will not be an issue at all. Being pregnant is not a medical condition :) and an unborn child is not an undeclared dependent. You are not required to inform them.

There's really no need to inform anyone.

Thanks bafonso and Rob for responding! I was able to call IRCC and they confirmed it is ok to proceed with landing.

Hi im almost in the same situation, did u call ricc to confirm if she can travel While pregnant or if u still need to declare the pregnancy?

And can she possibly fly by dec. Since its her 8mos. Right? Im 6mos. Now and plan to land by dec.

It's best to call IRCC. That's what we did to confirm the rule/procedure. Our personal experience was that the landing officer did not care for the pregnancy.

The issue is likely possible with airlines, when in third trimester, since they may prevent boarding. This is not an expert opinion - so you will be best served by checking explicitly with the airlines on this to be 100% sure. We did not fly in so can't share a personal experience on that.

Hope this helps.

Plus of course need to be aware that the OP may not have any health coverage for some time after initial PR landing so assume they have taken this factor into account. Airlines are very strict even more so for longhaul and their rules vary but many ask for a letter or fit to fly certificate from 28 weeks onwards.

Great points! Having health coverage is the single most important factor for expectant mothers planning to immigrate. This would vary depending on which province the landing happens in..

Hello..

Please do not hate for a slightly different post..

My wife is Pregnant and i finished collecting all docs including medicals except my wife X-ray(submitting pregnancy deferral form). I know this will delay the processing..BUT will they not even move forward wityh the background checks and other profession verifications and all other docs submitted until i submit my wife X-Ray after 5 months from now ??

I was under the impression that they move forward with the application, finish everything and wait for X-ray.. or will it not even be touched until wife x-ray after baby birth ?

Thanks and appreciate your response..

Why does your wife not take the x-ray now? You'd save a lot of time. Anyway, there's no guarantee they'll move forward with the other parts of the processing. You should probably just expect the application to be on hold until your wife completes the medical exam.

Not sure how you got that impression, that's not how they work. When they request something, they usually don't touch the app again until they've received what they've asked for.

except my wife X-ray(submitting pregnancy deferral form).
It is your personal decision, but I hope you know that there's nothing harmful about taking a chest x-ray exam for pregnant women. Being on a flight takes much more radiation than the little chest x-ray exam, and pregnant women go on those without a second thought.

It shoul be ok. You dont need to inform anyone as long as your child has not been born.

Take care if yourself ok?
