Wrong date - misrepresentation?

Hello. I've been following this forum for quite some time.

My visa office is currently processing my background check, I'm the principal applicant. There is one thing that is bothering me and my husband. We made a mistake where it asks about who knows about our relationship. We put the names of my sponsor's parents, but the date is wrong by a year. Would that be a problem? Is that misrepresentation? Should I inform the visa office that I met his parents a year earlier than we wrote? It's honestly worrying me. His parents weren't even in Canada that year and they can probably check that if they wanted to. We went over the application many times before sending it, not realizing that the year was off. We have been together for a few years.

Thanks for helping!

I do not think you have anything to worry about. Misrepresentation becomes an issue when it has an impact on things like the legitimacy of your relationship, your admissibility to Canada, etc. In terms of when you meet the family members, they are more interested that you have met them and not necessarily the year in which it happened. It's easy to get antsy and nervous when all you can do is sit and wait, but I think you are overthinking this one. Just my opinion :)

Simple mistake, not misrepresentation. And there is no chance that IRCC is actually going to check the date anyways.

Thank you so much for answers. I know it might be silly to worry about a small mistake compared to how serious misrepresentation is. I have to agree that this process is making me impatient with each day and it's making me overthink a lot. Hopefully it will be done soon. :)

Oh my goddd I know this is 2 years old but same. We had a similar mistake, we were off a month. My husband’s close friend wrote in her letter supporting us that we met May 2018 and I put on the form that we met June 2018. Honestly neither of us could remember. I’m hoping this isn’t misrepresentation.

Hey! You know, I would relax... no one will pay attention to such little things))) and even ( which i highly doubt) office will ask about this, you can explain it.... or get a letter from your friend to explain it. Just relax! Officers are also people:)
Well and the other thing I was worried about is nicknames and my husband is lovingly called “Gord” by his friends and coworkers but his full name is Gordon and on social media and pretty much all contexts other than vocally by friends he’s Gordon so I didn’t even bother putting Gord. Because I assumed they meant like other nicknames people will know him by and only those names which my husband does not have. I’m probably over thinking literally everything because the application is now out of my hands but I’m just like grrr I wanna be with my husband and I’m so scared of anything that could keep us apart :( thanks for your friendly response though ! Some people respond to these forums like People should know these things and I’m like ahhhh that doesn’t help that’s why we have these forums

I often overthink as well... so I understand you! Just relax... my husband applied for pr in Canada and then citizenship and also made mistakes, all went well.
Even if they ever ask, all has reasonable explanation.:) all will be good!
Yeah like the major things we were more than sure to disclose like that my husband is on disability but neither of us have a criminal record and have had anything like that that we’d need to disclose and we provided proof of our first contact and our first meeting and major relationship stuff. If your relationship is genuine, love will prevail in some form or another, at least that’s what I’ve heard! Lol and apparently reapplying if you get denied the first time isn’t always the end of the world.

Hello,

I just wanted to get update on your application, if it was approved or if there was any delay due to wrong dates?
