Guys, I am in a fix right now and would like to have your guidance on my case. My wife is expecting and due date is around Apr-May 18. we hope to be getting ITA in next draw (may be next week), Is there a possibility for me to accept ITA and then extend somehow till the birth of the baby so that we can include him/her in our application (so that we can avoid sponsorship hassles). Also, I am afraid that if we don't accept the ITA soon, the cutoffs may rise and we may risk our application.

Pls advise!

I think you got the wrong idea of how Express Entry works. ITA doesn't mean PR, friend.
It allow you 3 months to submit, 6 months to process and 6 months to landing.

Unfortunately, I don't think extensions are granted for ITAs or for eAPR (electronic application for permanent residency)( submissions (the part after you get the ITA). If you get an ITA next week, you will only have 90 days to submit the paperwork and eAPR; if you can't meet this obligation, you'll have to decline the ITA and go back into the pool to wait (hopefully) for a new one.

However, if you get an ITA next week, that would give you until January 17, 2018 to submit your eAPR and supporting documents. If your application is processed and approved within the 6 month timeframe, assuming you do your medical exams the day after you get your ITA, you wouldn't be asked to 'land' (claim your PR) until October 17, 2018 (the date your medicals expire), and you can add a family member to your PR Application, even if it's already approved, right up until the point that you land. Since your baby's due date is April or May, he/she would definitely be born in time for you to add him/her to your application. You would just need to ensure you don't land before adding him/her.

On top of that, there is a chest X-Ray portion of the medical exam that doctor's usually don't advise pregnant women to do (i.e. they will defer this part of your wife's medical exam until after she gives birth). You will be able to submit your eAPR in the meantime, but IRCC won't complete processing of your application until they get the chest X-Ray portion of your wife's medical, which means your application won't be approved until after your child is born and your wife can complete the medical.

Bottom line, accept your ITA, and submit your eAPR as soon as you can instead of delaying - all the measures that are in place to address a situation like yours will ensure everything works out in the end if you end up getting PR Approval

Thanks for the response. Yes I do know this, may be I didnt frame my query properly. I understand that after ITA (expected next week), i would get 3 months to submit docs (i.e. until mid Jan) and the 6 months (maximum) to process (It is this part where I am not sure as there is high probability they may process my application before the birth of baby, which would mean i wouldn't get time to add him/her to my application.

Thanks for the detailed response, it addresses my concern exactly.
However i would like to know more about the xray thing - Is it certain that they would defer this part for my wife's medical for as long as 6 months?

Also, is it certain that we can add baby's name even after we have received COPR?

If your child came after e-APR, It is no different if the date is before or after PPR. You still need to report that before landing and after PPR. If your child came after landing, he/she is Canadian Citizenship by birth.

If you are FSW, there is a good chance that you will land way before your wife delivery day

You mean I can add him/her in my application even after I have received my PR but have not done the landing?

You must. That's the rule. No option on that.

You can always call CIC to confirm the current implementation.

I just want to make sure that the baby gets the PR along with us and we don't have to go through sponsorship hassles.

So if it is possible to add the baby in application even after our PR is approved and processed, nothing better than that.

Yes you can add your new child anytime after PPR but before landing as @OdinNguyen explained.

The xray would be deferred until after your wife gives birth (as it's apparently not safe to do the xray if you're pregnant). This means the last 'piece' of your application can't be submitted until after the birth of your child, and the application processing can't be completed without this last piece.

Children (and spouses, and other changes to family situations such as adoption of children, death of dependents, etc.) can be added to/updated on your application, even after you get COPR, right up until the point when you land. So you just need to not land before adding your child to the application.
