Starting partnership whilst on a work permit

I'm in Canada on a work permit that states I can only work for my current company. I'm planning to start a partnership with a Canadian citizen and want to know if I'm able to do that or not?

I'm planning to apply for PR but it might be a while before I get it, so can I start and work for this partnership on the side while still working for my current company in regular hours?

You can provide money (funding) towards your start up. However you cannot do any work for the start up of any kind (paid or unpaid) since that would be working illegally because your work permit is restricted to a specific employer. So about all you can do is write a cheque. You can't be involved in any other way.

You mean an open work permit holder( eg: PGWP) can start partnership and legally work simultaneously for both entities?
