I am not sure why we are all confused about this question. The answer is clearly "NO"...Am i missing something.. The instruction guide clearly states that

There are very rare circumstances that will let you count time outside of Canada towards your physical presence calculation. If you resided outside of Canada because either:

  • you
  • your Canadian citizen or permanent resident spouse or common law partner
  • permanent resident parent
was employed outside Canada (not as a locally engaged person) in or with:

  • the Canadian Armed Forces
  • the federal public administration
  • the public service of a province or territory
Complete the Residence Outside of Canada form (CIT 0177) and submit any supporting documents requested in that form with your application.
How can you say the answer is "NO", it depends on each individual situation if someone has not lived outside Canada then its "NO" and if someone has lived outside Canada in the eligibility period then its "YES".
The eligibility period

  1. Calculate how long you’ve been in Canada

The eligibility period is five (5) years before the date of your application.

Please lets not misguide.

Any thoughts why CIC has introduced new question number 13? Why do they need it? I think it wasn't present in previous forms. What is meant be immigration status: long term visa, tourist/work visa or just permanent residency or it's analogs?

Yes, that is new, and it seems it's an open period, meaning that they want to know if you ever had an immigration status anywhere else since birth.

Just curious why would they want to know previous immigration statuses? Does it have any relation to citizenship act or something? Can an immigration status anywhere be decisive whether to grant citizenship or no

Hello Everyone,

Need help urgently with one question. I got my PR in Sep 2013 and living in Canada since then. So I have more then enough days as far as eligibility is concern.

But in the form, they ask me to enter my student permit date of issue and expiry. I don't know the exact dates because immigration officer took that permit during my PR landing and I don't have any copy.

So should I put approximate date and explain on the form? Or is there any alternate.

Any reply would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Experts,

I have a silly question. What should I fill in the chart for question #6, if I have never used any names other than my legal name (I just have one name on all of my documents)

Thanks in advance!

You enter a single line with your (one and only) name and "Why was this name used" = "Name at birth"
