From the front page of the updated calculator:

Foreign police certificates
You are required to provide a police certificate for each country, other than Canada, where you were present for a total of 183 days or more during the four (4) years immediately before the date of your application.

For this calculation only, it does not matter if the absence was before or after you became a permanent resident of Canada. Each day spent outside Canada counts as a full day in the other country.

See How to get a police certificate (police check) for specific and up-to-date information on how to get police certificates from any country.

That's okay; none of us is too surprised by that requirement having remained unchanged.

Why does the physical presence requirement look at five (5) years but the foreign police certificate looks at four (4) years?

A20: This is because these are two different requirements under the law. The physical presence requirement is 1,095 days in the five (5) years immediately before the date of your citizenship application. You cannot become a Canadian citizen if you have been convicted of an offence outside Canada (that is equivalent to an indictable offence in Canada) during the four (4) years immediately before your application date.

This Question in the FAQ almost makes you wonder if IRCC people read this forum. :)

CIC confirms that I dont have to provide a PCC for Saudi Arabia if I am not a legal resident.
is there any chance that I will be required to submit it again though.
