New citizenship oath reads: “I swear (or affirm) that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of Canada, her heirs and successors, and that I will faithfully observe the laws of Canada including treaties with Indigenous Peoples, and fulfil my duties as a Canadian citizen.

I like the change.

Many of the naturalized Canadians I have met have little understanding of Indigenous Peoples' histories in Canada. I often hear naturalized Canadians complain about the "special" rights and "generous" handouts Indigenous Peoples receive. Recent immigrants are sometimes heard using their success in Canada as an example of what Indigenous Peoples could achieve, if only they applied themselves. This attitude ignores Indigenous Peoples' histories, their treaty rights, the Canadification campaigns they have endured, and the institutionalized racism they continue to face. A reminder during the oath, along with more questions about Indigenous Peoples and their treaty rights on the citizenship test, might help naturalizing Canadians better appreciate the history of Indigenous Canadians.

Agreed!

There is one important aspect people don't realize that we enter sovereign territories(Not 100% sure) of first nations more often than we think, rules could be different there, all are expected follow First nations' rules.
