You need to apply today for BOWP if not you might get into trouble with PR for not maintaining your legal status. Please follow this link carefully

I think you need to have a valid work permit before you can apply for a returning visa.

84 days if you applied online and 118 days for paper. Also one you get the WP then you can apply for visa extension that will take approx another month all together. Its a good idea you visit your family for christmas once you have a valid visa and maybe apply for temporary resident visa from your home country.

Yes I did same last year.. My mother was in hospital in emergency. I got work permit just 2 day before I fly. But I went from here without visa to see my mother last time. Then I applied Visa from India and I got that.

I got decision made in ecas. Dont know when exactly. No update in my cic though.May 11th 2016 applicant congrats! when your background check change to in process?
