Hi, I intend to do my landing in toronto and be there for one week, during which I want to get my Social Insurance Number (SIN). I have not decided where exactly i will stay but it will be in some hotel in toronto. I have 2 questions - i) can I visit any service center to get SIN or is there any restriction ? ii) Can anybody who did landing and got SIN in toronto suggest a service center? thanks in advance.

The service Canada center nearest to your hotel. No restrictions. There is one even in Toronto airport. You can get your SIN from there too. Hardly takes 15 minutes.

excellent, thanks a lot. One more question - what documents do I need to take with me (other than CoPR, passport, proof of fund and my driving license - which I will use as ID) for SIN application and PR card application ? I mean what document copies do I need to attach or what document would I need to show for SIN and PR card? thanks a lot

For SIN:
Only CoPR letter and passport required.

Check this link for further details:
https://www.canada.ca/en/employment-social-development/services/sin.html

For PR card:

There is no specific application to be submitted. It is automatically triggered when your landing is completed at Port of entry.

Thanks a lot. I remember I read somewhere that a form needs to be filled for SIN and another for PR card, is that correct?

No forms. Just some signatures.

CBSA officers and service Canada staff are very helpful. You don't have to worry so much.

Hi please are you trying to say that immigrants get social insurance number as soon as they land and fill the registration form at the airport? Or it takes weeks for processing? kindly clarify.

Thank you for the info. How about photographs?? Do the PR or SIN processing require photographs from the applicant's/co-applicant's end or just our signatures??

Thanks @ajithj

Yes, permanent residents can get social insurance number on the same day of landing.

As I said before, once your landing is completed at Port of entry. Go to nearest 'service Canada' office. Show your COPR and passport. Sign a form and get SIN number in 15 mins.

If you are landing in Toronto airport, there is a service Canada office in the airport itself.

I am not sure if service Canada office is there in other Canadian airports. It might be inside the city.

For PR card they use the photos submitted during PPR request.

No photos required for SIN. Canada stopped issuing SIN cards some time back. Now they just print your SIN on a piece of paper.

Oh I see. So like if the SIN is in like a A4 size paper, do I need to laminate it or something from being worn and torn?? I mean its used in places such as Banks and all right?? Thanks.

You just have to store it in a secure place. It is asked only by your employer and bank. Not required for anything else.

Hei Ahith, I have one more question - Can I do the landing at Toronto airport on a Saturday and still avail the service center (for SIN) and all other services? or are those open only on weekdays and I should land on during weekdays. Thanks a lot.

I am not sure about service Canada timings. I think only on weekdays 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

There are lot of service Canada centers in and around Toronto. You can always visit any one of them on next working day.
