I applied for my wife's immigration on 25th august. the checklist asked for my tax document but since 2016 was my first year I had to do a paper filing of tax which took 16 weeks to process, then on 7th september I received a letter that my tax is being sent to a department which handles in international taxing. The reason is that i came to Canada mid of 2016, now CRA is saying that it will take another 16 weeks and I will get my notice of assesment till December.

When I filed for my wife immigration I mentioned in extra sheet that I have still not received my tax returns, now my question is will this delay my wifes application? Is there a workaround here - could I contact the MP to help me in getting those tax work done quicker?

I havnt received AOR or a request to provide the tax document but just want to make things avaliable in advance

Well i dont know much but i guess since tax is one on the list tht should be provided by a sponsor so its a mandatory to complete it.. also about Aor, in my case, i got AOR a week after CIC received my complete application (sent by registered pos)

We also did not have our 2016 NOA available. We applied with the 2015 NOA and included a letter of explanation explaining why 2016's is not available. We received AOR (it was fine). It's not something they would request from you later on, because the NOA is only required for the very first part of the application process, sponsor approval, which is completed within a week or two after you receive your AOR.

makes sense as you had 2015 NOA, in my case I dont have any because I landed in Canada in feb 2016 and I should have provided 2016 NOA but its still not processed by CRA.

They understand that there are some times when people may not have their NOA available. That's why it says on the checklist you can provide a letter of explanation if you don't have it.

I applied in May without a notice of assessment for 2016 as I was not present in Canada during that time. I had applied for tax return but because of the same issue as yours I would be getting my tax return in 2-3 months after applying. I explained clearly in my letter, what i was doing in 2016, where I was, 2015 NOA and also included copy of the tax return application for 2016. My application was accepted without any issue. It says on the checklist- if you cannot provide something please explain why in a separate letter. BTW i applied for tax return on April and just got my tax return back like last month so if I had waited to apply for the application I would have been waiting till now!
