Hello,

I am Raunak Kelekar from India, studied Bachelor of Mass Media (3 Years), and had chosen Advertising in my specialisation year(3rd Year). After graduation, I worked with a media agency for a period of 8 months as a Social Media Associate.

Well, now I wish to move to Canada by studying a suitable coursework (Advertising or Marketing). Said that, a three year PGWP would be sufficient enough for me to get a job in my field of study and later transpire it in a PR. To get a 3 Year PGWP you need to be studying a 2 year coursework.
As per my knowledge, there are jobs in the marketing field in the city of Toronto and thus my choice of destination to study. However, the colleges in Toronto like Humber, Seneca or any publicly listed college provides a 1 year Graduate Certificate, which converts to provide a student with a 1 year PGWP.

Can I get a 2 Year PGWP, if I study the 1 Year Coursework twice consecutively, and different programs?
Per say, Humber College has a 1 Year Graduate certificate coursework in Advertising starting in September and ends in May/July, followed by Seneca College has a 1 Year Graduate certificate coursework in Brand Management starting August and ends in April.

Read the work permit issuance and validity section here http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/students/post-grad.asp

Others may comment but your challenge might be providing a convincing case to study advertising post grad when that was already your degree specialisation

Also you cannot work between the 2 courses so do not make that mistake as your PGWP will be refused given that would be classed as illegal work on basis it would not be a scheduled break of a 2 year course.

Have you considered the masters route ?

Thank you for your reply, Bs65.
I went through the link and as per the clause, If a student obtained a one-year degree, diploma or certificate from an eligible institution in Canada after having obtained, within the prior two years, another degree, diploma or certificate from an eligible institution in Canada, the duration of the work permit may be up to three years, I understand the route of two 1+1 coursework is sufficient to get a 3 year PGWP. However, I am not sure if what I said is right, please guide.

Well I won't work between the two courses, apart from the work placement of 160 hours (4 Week) that is part of the first coursework.
About the master's route, it sounds interesting but I possess 15 years of education, unlike 16 years of education that is the requirement of the universities and secondly wouldn't it provide me a 1 year PGWP, unlike my intention and priority that is to settle in the country?

Please guide, thank you. :)

Well, I intend to pursue master's. However, I possess 15 years of education, unlike 16 years of education that is the requirement of the universities and secondly wouldn't it provide me a 1 year PGWP, unlike my intention and priority that is to settle in the country?

About pursuing two 1+1 coursework's, keeping in mind to not posses more than 3 months of gap between the two coursework's I have emailed to the aspired institution for the academic calendar and waiting for the reply. I should update you once I get a reply from them.

Please guide, thank you. :)

normally masters is 2 years program that gives u 3 years of PGWP. yes ur 15 years of education does pose a challenge. In EE profile u get lots of points for masters hence the suggestion if its not possible 1+1 could work but keep in mind if ur not enrolled in a program for more than 3 months ur study permit may get cancelled hence the no more than 3 months gap.

Getting into a master's program with a 3 year bachelor degree will probably not be possible.
It is very much possible. Plenty of friends and colleagues who completed 3 year Bachelor degrees (provided they graduated in the 1st division from UGC recognized and NAAC accredited A-grade Universities) have been given admits to 2 year Masters degrees in Canada / USA and Australia.
