HELP! Leaving Canada right after landing

Hello everyone, not sure if this is where I should post this query or if I should've posted it under Express Entry... Sorry if it's in the wrong category. But here goes...

I have just recently been granted immigrant status, and the visa stamped on my passport expires in November 25, 2017. I have a few things I need to take care of here in Thailand where I am currently working, so I can't move to Canada right away.

The solution I have thought of is to fly to Toronto for a few weeks and stay there for 3 weeks at most. Maybe first week of October to end of October. BUT I have read in the CIC website that the PR card will not be available right away and will only be mailed to my address after about a month.

This means that I will have already returned to Thailand by then.... What should I do? I've read that some have asked friends or relatives to send their PR cards to them when it arrives, but I've also read that there are RISKS, though I wasn't really clear on what these risks are.

Please? Any advice?

An initial PR card may take as long as 6 weeks and can only be mailed to an address in Canada. As far as risks in getting a card mailed to a friends address the only risk is could get lost in mail to home country so some people use a courier instead.

Alternatively if you do not have a friends address you can defer your PR card application until you come back to establish residence but then you would need to apply for a PRTD to fly back. Applying for a PR card or not makes no difference in completing your landing as a PR you just need a PRTD without it.

There are alternatives you can find on the forum to mailing to a friends address but those probably do carry risks of loss versus a hopefully reliable friend.

You have only 3 options to return to Canada after doing PR landing.
1. Give friends address as your Canadian residence upon landing. When your friend receives PR card in the mail, they can courier it to you in your home country.
2. Apply for PR TD from your local VAC (Visa Application Centre) that serves Thailand.
3. Fly to USA, and cross into Canada via land border. For this just your passport + COPR is good enough.

Will it be advisable to get a one way ticket instead of a return ticket?

I'm just worried that I might be questioned when I land in Canada about my return ticket and the immigration officer might refuse to mail my PR card to me if he/she finds out that I'm planning on leaving after a few weeks.

Any inputs?

Any ideas about the ticket I should purchase? Should I get a return ticket or a one way ticket?

I'm worried about being questioned as to why I will be leaving the country only after a few weeks.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Your PR card must be mailed to a Canadian address they will not mail outside of Canada. The address can be a friends address they do not really mind as long as not a PO box. Your friend if you have one can mail or courier card to you in home country.

People do short landings all the time some even only stay for couple of days and really is nothing go be concerned about as long as you have an address to have your cards sent to. Even if you dont still not an issue as you can apply for your cards any time you are back in the country although of course you would need a PRTD to fly back directly without having a PR card.

It is unlikely anyone will ask to see your ticket anyway and even if they did you are free to come and go as you want. Simply answer any CBSA questions honestly and if they even ask if you are doing a short landing answer honestly given as said it is not unusual for people to land and then return to home country to tidy up, in fact it is sort of expected.

So buy a return ticket , only answer CBSA questions that they ask, do not volunteer information, have a friends Canadian address for your PR card, of course have your COPR etc to hand and apply for your SIN straight away once landed.

Once landed do not forget the residency obligation starts from the day you land, but you can still away for a max of 3 years.

Do you get an email notification or a status update on your online application saying that your PR card is being processed? I completed my landing last week, and I'm not sure if there are any issues or it's all good.

Zero travel restrictions. You can submit your passport in India if that happens.
