Hi,

I have CRS points of 388.

My IELTS score being L: 8, R:8.5, S:7 and W: 6.5.

Will a 7 in Writing boost my score? Also I have added my spouse as dependant. Could this also be the reason for lesser CRS points(with spouse) ?.

Please let me know if I need to give IELTS again.

IELTS is usually the best hope to increase CRS. if you spouse also appears for IELTS, those scores are added to the application, can boost overall CRS. more detailed response will be only on basis of you providing more info on overall profile and CRS calculation

yep you need to work on IELTS. this can increase you first language score as well as if you are CLB 9,, it can give you 50 points on skill transfer (in combination with work experience)

try calculating your CRS here by yourself. so you know where you can do better (also can decide if your spouse needs ECA/IELTS to bump the scores)

I was at 369 till 2 days prior to receiving the hard copy of my IELTS results, and it’s now 444 with mine and spouse’s scores added.

You need atleast a 7 in writing to cross the magic 400 threshold !

Wow !! Thank you for letting me know that it can make so much difference. That is really amazing ! Congratulations, you would surely get ITA as the numbers dropped significantly. I was initially thinking to remove my spouse as accompanying, that was the initial idea, but now I think I will give again. Thanks a lot for your input :)

Hi,

Could you please let me know what your scores were on the first test? And how you improved? What did you do to improve your writing score?

This is coming as a shocker to me because I got 29/30 in TOEFL writing without any preparation. I am not sure what is going wrong with my test. I should have given for re eval, but I crossed the time limit for that.

Anyway, please kindly throw some light on how you improved your scores.

My 1st test scores were as follows:

L- 7.5, R-9, W-7, S-7.5

I was upset that I received a 7.5 in Listening and Speaking, and took the test seriously only after I registered for it. I had taken the Academic IELTS 12 years ago securing a 9 in Speaking. However, this time around I focused completely on Listening and took all the Listening tests that were supplied with the British Council CD (I was overconfident and didn't take a single practice test in my 1st IELTS General Training test).

Regarding the speaking test, I have never prepared for one and just played it out. For Writing, I used to read (and still continue to) the Financial Times, New York Times, and other reading materials for over 10 years. This helped me enable to gain a leverage position in writing.
