Hi Everybody,

Here is my situation:

For the last two years I have been working as a drywall installer which is NOC 7284 B category. Recently I've had a consultation with a canadian migration agent to see what my chances are. I was told that I can only apply through Federal Skilled Trades Program which requires a job offer or a certificate of qualification issued by Canadian authority. Considering that I don't have any of that, I lost my hope.

But I still can't find any information that clearly says that I can not apply through FSW program with NOC 7284. Either I don't understand something or the migration agent is not quiet competent.

If I would be able to aplly with this NOC I would be scoring about 420 - 430 CRS poins.

Please advise.

Respectfully,
Freddy

for that NOC you need LMIA and for LMIA you need job offer. So in this category, you can not make it without job offer

Thank you for your reply Neophile!

Could you please guide me where to find this information for my own peace of mind.

first check CIC website for the NOC if its mandatory to get LMIA for this NOC. If yes then go for LMIA procedure to learn how it get issued. I think it states that an employer can only get LMIA issued.

  • have an offer of employment for continuous full-time work for a total period of at least one year from up to two employers in that skilled trade occupation or hold a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade from a Canadian provincial or territorial authority.

The migration agent is right. You either need a job offer or a certificate of qualification to apply.
