Since you became a PR if this happened less than six years ago ("the relevant period")

Hi guys,

Can someone explain to me the statement in red and what this exactly means in the citizenship application form?

(You must include photocopies of the biographical pages of any passports or travel documents you held in the six (6) years immediately before the date of your application, or since you became a permanent resident if this happened less than six years ago ("the relevant period")

In my case, I became a PR in Jan 2016, but was in Canada from 2011 (since more than 6 years)

Pls explain.

Others can comment but the question is simply asking for copies only post becoming a PR not before becoming a PR.

So in your case you became a PR only in Jan 2016 so less than 6 years prior to application so copies since Jan 2016 , although whether at this point you could even apply under the current rules is a different question but guess you are thinking ahead to post C6 implementation.

I guess the question might change post C6 implementation to previous 5 years including pre PR and post PR but who knows.

In your case, as of current 4/6 rules, you only need to provide related documents since you became PR, Jan 2016. Now that said, under the current 4/6 rule, you do not qualify until at least Jan 2020 at minimum. However once the 3/5 rule kick in, you will only need provide related documentation from Jan 2014, if you wish to include pre-PR credit towards citizenship. Any documents beyond Jan 2014 would be meaningless as they will not count towards 3/5 rule since 2 years of pre-PR is the max amount to credit 1 year towards 3/5 citizenship allowed. Under the /5 rule, you will not qualify until Jan 2018 at the minimum.

Unless you were claiming time spent in Canada before you became a PR, you should only submit information (and documents) from the date you became a PR. CIC is not going to ignore what you disclose, even when it is not applicable to your relevant period. I learned of someone who applied providing information beyond his relevant period and was asked to provide criminal background check for a country he lived in for over 6 months before he even became a PR, which delayed his application.
