So I had 2 vacations long time ago(Jamaica,Cuba). As I didn't have stamps in my passport,I forgot exact dates and filled in approximate dates in my calculator.when the officer was talking to me she said there were 2 absences that did not match the dates they received from border control canada. She told me that she sees when I was back, but the time I left is not clear(as Canada doesn't stamp when u leave). She said I needed to prove the dates I was away for these 2 trips and gave me RQ to fill in.So next day I printed out all the reservations for these 2 trips and sent with RQ.I also attached the letter of explanation on that.So I dunno now:(
Can I ask you some thing if you don't mind. How come you filled approximate dates ? Its such a stupidity. Din't you know you have to tell exact dates and they always check and match with that on your passport and when you can see there is no stamp on passport you should be extra careful mentioning those dates and have provided evidence of what you have written in residence calculator. Its a common sense and must do thing that to provide evidence of every thing you mention in your application because they take residence check in Canada very very seriously. If you see this forum almost every one has said that during interview, officer matched the absences mention on residence calculator form with that on the entry/exit stamps on passport. I think you are paying the price due to this negligence. Any way be careful now and provide documented evidence of every thing. Always check what you have written on application form and be ready to provide evidence of that whether its employment, residence, language etc Due to this blunder now be extra careful and be ready to support whatever you have filled in application form Good luck to you..

No need to worry about that. Many people remain unemployed for long times. I know people who even filed applications with zero taxes got their Citizenships. Sit back and relax nothing will happen to you. Just be truthful
Right on! An immigration lawyer once told me to lie about my daughters sickness (in regards health issues that cause excessive demand on health or social services) when I was applying for PR. Well, I'm happy I did not heed her sordid advise. I don't have to look over my shoulder or be nervous when applying for citizenship now. The truth shall set you free.

Thanks a lot. But actually I was not totally unemployed during that time. I used to do some work at home but that was very minimal like some times $400 per month, sometimes $300 and sometimes with no work. But I have no documents to prove that, just some excel based invoices and on the bank statements it is just shown as deposit, no company name, and that bank account is no longer active now, I closed that account long time ago. I do not even remember the duration or dates I worked. I did mention that little income in tax return as business income.

So I thought it would be better to show that period as unemployed. I don't know if I did the right thing or not.

This is very minor thing. Nobody is gonna even look at that. Do not worry. I know people with totally unemployed for long durations and still got citizenship. Just try to beat your inner fear.. Good luck. Their requirement is not that you should be employed for 4 years, requirement is that you have filed taxes (even with 0 income) and you must be living here..hope you get it..

Many wise people who have gone through this process told me that they do 2 main checks on you.

1) You have no criminal conviticon

2) You must be living here for 4 years

If you can prove that then you are good. Employed or unemployed doesn't matter much

Hey Guys,

I applied for citizenship in May 2015, passed the test on May 18, 2016; and provided the requested supplementary documents on May 21, 2016 (in request to CIT 0520 RQ form the interviewer officer handed to me in person). I got one letter in mail dated October 27, 2016 from supervisor officer with concerns about my claimed work history, tenancy, entries from US,... and gave me one month to explain all the concerns he had with my file. I had two choices to reply by mail or ask for personal interview and hearing. I prepared all requested answers and documents and replied by mail at the window period I had. Now, I assume it was better to ask a hearing session at that time although all the matters he had concerns about them was because of misunderstanding or error on their side. It's 10 months now but nothing happened to my file situation, "in process". Call center also says "wait" all the times I'm calling them. I wrote a letter one month ago and handed it to my CIC office I took the test there for supervisor officer but nothing again. I made a " Case Specific Enquiry" yesterday and waiting for the result of it.

My questions are:

-Is there any other action I can do?

-Will ATIP help me in some ways?

-What kind of ATIP? Privacy Or information works for me?

-Is there any need to attach some documents into my ATIP request? Or Is the expanations in the ATIP form important for the request?

-What about a lawyer? Having it will help me so far?

Any help?
