I have a score of 6.5 in writing and 8 and 8.5 in rest three. overall score is 8. does a low score in writing effect my chances for a good score in express entry? what should be my next step. re evaluation or create profile in pool?

check your score assuming 7 in writing keeping everything same. Note the difference. You will understand about your chances.

Chances of a good CRS point really depends on this and your other CRS factors. Based on your IELTS score, your Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) is 8, 10, 10, 10 respectively. While this may be very good on it's own, assuming your other CRS factors are great, it does impact the maximum points you can get under adaptability where minimum CLB of all 9 is desirous (assuming you also have a Masters or 2 or more degrees). The best & your next step is to calculate your entire CRS point and see how the different factors impact one another. If you have a fair CRS point that can get you ITA in next draw, then you're good to go. However if not, then decide if improving your points in CRS factors within your control will be helpful or if you may even need to pursue a Provincial nomination route.
Writing points peaks at 7.5 band. There is a huge loss of points for 6.5 band in writing, I think it is close to 40 points, whereas from 7.5 drop down to 7 it is only 5 points drop.
i agree. i got 6.5 in writing. rest three 8.5 and 8. while my overall is 8. but only because of 6.5 i writing has resulted in a loss of 40 points
Now you should create a profile with this score and side by side give IELTS exam again and you can update your profile later on with your new score.
firstly - what is your CRS with this score? whether you go for reval or retake the test depends on what your current CRS is & what are the chances of getting an ITA right now.
go for reassessment of your writing score. .. they might give you a 7 it has happened to a lot of people. . try it the benifit outweigh the cost

Yes 6.5 is accepted. Did you check through there tool for calculation of score?
