Hi Nuurueal,

My file got processed exactly how cic claims. Once you submit your electronic application with fees the clock starts! Cic says most applications will be processed in 6 months or less. My final approval took 4.5 months. That was the trend then but now I have no information about it. But as a general assumption it shouldn't take any longer than 6 months.

All the best!

Hello Luder, i wondered what your professional field is as i noticed you said it is quite hard to find work in Halifax? My husband works in IT - a lot of experience, and we have been looking to see jobs advertised for computer programmers in Halifax area, but hardly any appear on the job websites .... which worries us! Anyone on here already in Nova Scotia who works in the IT sector? You would assume if the province is nominating people in the IT sector there are jobs for them to do once they arrive? Many thanks and wishing you all the best :)

Hi Luder,

Sorry to hear about your accident. Thank god you and your children are all fine. Welcome to NS. Yes, Nova Scotia is very beautiful i confirm and lot of places to visit during the summer <:. Housing prices vary depending on region, but sure it's quite expensive in Halifax and central regions. There are some places which are not advisable due to crime rates - there are yellow signs posted along the road!!!! And you are also right, getting a job here is not so easy. Do visit ISANS thou, the job specialist may help newcomers. I am still job hunting - no luck up to now. I am here since 2 months now.
Best of luck. If you need any help do PM me.

Cheers,

Kushal

Hi visagypsy,

My professional field is, well, my education is in the field of nursing. But I'm trading forex online for the past 6 years. It's been nearly 3 years since I left nursing. I left it for the strong-hearted; I'm fainthearted! Jokes apart, but you know home based trading activities are essentially cyclical, meaning, some months end profitable while the next month may break-even or even may end with a loss. So, what I do, I take up any survival jobs I find as hedges which mostly are headache-free so that I can find time and grab some pips on some of the risk events. Sorry for the market terms!

As for your worry., IT jobs are like double-edged swords here! I have a bunch of friends from my Church who work in established IT companies in Halifax. What they say is getting a job in IT is far more easier than in other fields. But IT job availability is a bit scarce. So, if you can manage to lock in some IT positions and apply soon, chances are, you'll be picked up just from the first interview. Keep a list of employers. And immediately after coming here seek ISANS guidance. They are good. Make as many connections as possible and constantly network with them, you can easily find a job within a month or two. But your dream job or dream company may take a year or two!

As shocking it may seem, but experience gathered elsewhere apart from Canada is undervalued! They ask for Canadian work experience! Don't get scared with all these, these are just preparatory advises and suggestions. How you experience the move and how you take up challenges is what matters!

Well, all the best for your bright future and career!

Hello Luder,

thanks so much for your reply - is all useful background! We emigrated to Melbourne last year from the UK, and there are a lot of jobs here which is great, as where we moved from in the UK - we had the problem of jobs being scarce, which was one of the main reasons we decided to leave. It has taken so long to get to this point through the PNP process as it has been so slow, so we are wary of considering emigrating again if finding a job is going to be hard ...... because we know all too well, that is a stressful situation, and we have two very young children. But Halifax sounds like a really nice place, and not so big and hectic as Melbourne .... and the houses look a lot cheaper too!! Very interested in any feedback from people working in,or who know people in the IT sector is Halifax? Many thanks!;-)

I am from Business anlayst background and I have around 400 CRS score. Would I get jobs in my field there and is there any chance to get PNP?

Yes, compared to Melbourne and UK in general, life may be relatively stress-free in Halifax. When I share about house prices in Halifax with my sister in law in New York, she can't believe - a similar house may cost 5 times more in the US!

Although cheaper than many cities around the globe, job opportunities are a bit tricky in my opinion.

But if you look at the other side of the coin, Canada is one of the few countries that can withstand geopolitical uncertainties. But UK and Australia often get affected by geopolitical tensions!

So I encourage you not to get wary about jobs. If you can't find a position right away you can definitely find in a month or two.

I'll try to get the contacts of some folks in the IT field and give their numbers or emails even before you come here. That way you can arrive prepared.

All the best!

Hi Babu,

There's is no hard and fast rule like you should be maintaining a certain amount of funds prior to applying for Nova Scotia nomination. But when the time comes where you have to show proof of funds to CIC and or NSOI before they can ascertain that you are maintaining the funds for a minimum of at least 6 months, you'll be required to show POF for the past 6 months from that point.

So, let's say if you're sending the very first application to NSOI today, it's a good idea to set aside the required funds in an account from which you can take bank authorised statements at the time NSOI is asking for an update of POF and for CIC when you send your electronic application.

As for your question, yes it's better to have an account funded with pof value 3 months prior to applying to nsnp. But if it's not there you may freshly fund the account but make sure the fund value stays within the stipulated pof from the application date till you receive the PR and after PR you'll have to bring the funds to Canada.

All the best!

Hi Minid,

A CRS score of 400 is actually good.

Currently, NS Demand express entry scheme is open only for category A. What that means is, you'll need to find employment in NS first to come into that category.

There's another category, that's category B. Under this category there are 16 opportunity occupations. But this stream is currently closed. NSOI says this category is expected to open and close over the next year.

You have two options to get PNP in Nova Scotia.

1. Category B: You'll have to research if your NOC code falls under one of the 16 opportunity occupations, if it does, get the documents ready (experience certs, educational certs, credential assessment, IELTS etc), then wait for the stream to open and apply. But nobody knows when they're opening. Check their website periodically.

2. Category A: On the other hand, look for ways to find employment with job offer and positive LMIA and apply along with the job offer under category A anytime coz it seems this category will be open for a long time.

All the best!
