Thank you so much for your replies. It can feel so isolating being a foreign worker sometimes, I didn't even realize I sound frustrated.

I found out today my manager has been lying to me about some issues I really can't accept lies about. I want to be able to say 'that's it, I'm done' but I have to take into consideration my paperwork and my legal status. It is very challenging emotionally, especially as I thought I would have my PR by now.

I think I am going to wait. It seems like many people are getting to the end of their applications, things are finally moving for us. It is surely a final test!
hi i have the same situation like you right now i want to quit my job, already did my MR two momths ago i just cant handle the stress right now coz i have too much work loaded to me all my colleages got their pr already left

you can look for another job and move from your current company. Your EE won't be affected in any way.

Hello all,

The subject line says it all.

Sadly I am not happy in my job anymore. I have been seeing it through for the past two years, 18 months of which I have had my PR application in process.

I'm working for a company that simply doesn't share the same values as me and I can't bear to work under such conditions anymore. I have been struggling through this for a long time now, being on an LMO and tied to this position. The challenge is that I have had to stay with this job because of its location. Simply put, I'm stuck here until I get PR.

But the wait has been so long for us, and I really am at the end of my tether. I want to leave my current position, because I am so unhappy, but I am scared of losing my status in the country as a worker. I'm not worried about losing the paycheque for now, I just don't know if I can quit and still get PR?

My whole life I dreamed of coming to Canada, I never imagined the immigration process would be like this :(

The good news is I had a request for additional documents already, which I was able to send right away. But still no MR yet. I am breaking in this job! What can I do? Should I just keep waiting or do I have the option of restoration of status if I quit?

I am in the same boat. Stretching between staying and quitting every second. Too scared to leave without some certainty of my future in hand. What`s for the best is, I think, follow up with CIC to see which process your file is at. If elegibility is passed, 90% of the chance you could leave without any hassle or concerns, i.e. background check with current employer, if that is what you worry. Otherwise, waiting for your BOWP is approved. It is chanllenging, but it is the time to weight in everything before making a decision.

The only reason you would "need" to stay is if you had points for a valid job offer, or if your provincial nomination was linked to your employer.

The Effect of Employment Termination on the Foreign Worker's Work Permit and Temporary Resident Status
Surprisingly, the termination of a foreign national’s employment does not automatically invalidate his or her work permit. According to Section 209 of the Immigration and Refugee Protection Regulations (SOR/2002-227), a work permit becomes invalid when it expires or when a removal order that is made against the permit holder becomes enforceable. R209 clearly makes no reference to the termination of the foreign national’s employment.

Although a work permit authorizes the foreign national to engage in employment with the employer listed on the work permit, it does not create a legal obligation to do so. As a result, even if the foreign national quits or is terminated by the employer, this does not automatically invalidate his or her work permit. Because the work permit remains valid after the termination of employment, the foreign national’s temporary resident status also remains valid.

Of course, the work permit normally cannot be used to engage in employment with any other employer. If the foreign national quits or is terminated, it is unlikely that he or she will work for the original employer listed on the work permit at any time in the future.

Nevertheless, from a technical perspective, the work permit and the foreign national’s underlying temporary resident status remain valid. As a result, the foreign national is entitled to remain in Canada as a temporary resident until the work permit expires, as long as he or she does not violate status by working or studying without authorization (which could result in the commencement of removal proceedings).
