"Broke the law"... Really? I was thouroughly checked out of both Oslo and Frankfurt. They don`.t send travellers to North America if there`s some kind of red flag attached to the person in question.
Look no point in continuing this debate as you are entitled to your opinion same as anyone else on here.
Fact is your overstayed as a visitor by 27 weeks so you broke immigration law by overstaying illegally your permitted stay whether that initial 6 months was stamped in your passport or not, visitors are only entitled to a max 6 month stay on each visit unless specifically authorised for longer or some are authorised for a lot less than 6 months but that would be stamped in their passport.
Given currently there is no formal process by immigration that I am aware of to record visitor exits from Canada other than passenger manifests, although that may soon change, everything is basically done on a trust basis that people will not overstay and by doing so break the immigration law. You overstayed and admitted as much so technically you were in Canada illegally for 27 weeks out of status.
As has been noted here this is not a debate about whether you were 'flagged' or not but simply the fact that you overstayed so any future formal dealings that you have with immigration where this could come up may in future cause you problems.
So is not about whether you were successful in applying for an ETA, you boarded a flight this time to Canada, you entered Canada without any issue, it is more about that if you so chose to apply for PR or a work permit that your overstay may or may not become an issue because for the period of overstay you were in the country illegally.
Ultimately this is just a public forum where people exchange views in good faith to either be accepted for what they are , personal views , or simply ignored else why would anyone bother asking a question in the first place if they know the answer already.
