Hi all,

Hoping for some advice for a complex situation:

I am on a young professional visa until May next year. My partner is Canadian but he lives on Vancouver Island, and as the only employer I could find to support my visa application is located on the mainland, we don't live together....ergo: De Facto is not an option for us. I therefore recently submitted my profile for federal skilled migration, awaiting feedback.

I am now pregnant (due in April) and won't be able to see my contract to the end. Also, I wouldn't want my partner to miss most of the pregnancy, so am actually hoping to move to the island for at least the third trimester.

Questions:
1. If I stop working before my contract has been completed, what does that mean for my status? Will they cancel my Young Professional Visa?

2. Do I have to report my pregnancy to CIC or only once the child has been born?

3. Does it actually help my case if I'm pregnant by a Canadian?? I know the baby will be citizen if born here but is there anything in place for mothers(-to-be)? We have been talking about marriage for a while but don't want to have to rush things if we don't have to.

Thanks!

1. Your work permit remains valid but you won't be able to work for anyone else.

2. You don't have to report it to IRCC at all.

3. Having a Canadian child doesn't help you in any way.

I would look into the health insurance you purchased to see if pregnancy and delivery are covered. Unfortunately you will not qualify for maternity leave after the baby is born although your partner may qualify for parental leave depending on his circumstances. What are your visa plans after the baby is born?
