My husband and I will be applying for my husband's PR soon. We are both currently living in the US (I'm a Canadian citizen). My question pertains to some of our supporting documents, specifically our passports and my son's birth certificate.
My husband's passport is expiring in October. We were hoping to have our applications for my sponsorship and his PR sent out in the coming weeks. We were also planning to send off his passport shortly to have it renewed. Should we wait to fill out our applications until his new passport is in hand, or will it have the same book number/will they be able to match things up considering it's just a renewal?
My Canadian passport has long since expired. Do I need to have a current passport? We only travel between Canada and the US by land so I've always just used my US green card at border crossings. Would I just include my expired book number, or should I apply for a current Canadian or US passport?
Next question, our son (and daughter) will be included in our application. When our son was born, hospital staff accidentally recorded my birth information as California, not Canada. We are sending off to have this information corrected. Again, should we wait until his corrected birth certificate arrives, or would sending off his current record be okay?
Would love to avoid the additional processing times of waiting for the new passport and birth certificate to arrive, but don't want to cause confusion and slow down our application time either.
Any insight is appreciated!
