Returning after travelling out of Canada

My girlfriend is an international student with a valid study and re-entry visa. We will be going back to her home country for two weeks before the school semester starts. Sometime this year we plan on strating the application process for me to sponsor her ( common law partner). However, once we return to Canada, our relationship will be questioned and we are worried that by stating that we are a couple, she will be refused access back into the Country because they are worried that she will not return home.

Do we have anything to worry about? Should we say we are friends instead?

At the airport, wouldn't you both queue at different lines - one visitor and the other Canadian residents? Both you would be at different kiosk answering separately.

We're more worried about what to answer should the question arise asking who we traveled with(regardless of being in the same line or not). Whether or not we should refer to the other person as a friend or boyfriend/girlfriend, and if we say friend would it ever come back to haunt us later in the year when he have to prove that we`re in a real relationship for sponsorship.

But at the kiosks, if one choose 2 persons traveling there is no option for the other person to choose 0!

You are worrying over nothing. It is perfectly fine for the two of you to travel together as a couple. Don't lie.

Ok thank you!!. We just got a bit spooked when we read stories of people being refused entry because they were suspected of coming into the country just to get married and not leave.

Such a refusal by CBSA is actually rare and generally only happens when a person is first entering Canada and pretty much always when the person is entering as a visitor.

Your partner already lives here and is returning with a valid study permit. It is a FAR different situation.

I dont think that as they are travelling together any issue going through the same line and as previous posts the GF is on a valid study permit so has a valid reason to enter.
