We got married on 2017-July-27 in Canada and we are expecting our second baby in August 2017. I have my PR but my husband is on Visitor visa and his visitor visa expires on 01 October 2017 .Unfortunately I CAN'T sponsor him till July 2018 (I use to be a sponsored person).

1.Can he extend his visitor visa without applying sponsorship?
2.Can he apply for extension visa and open work permit at the same time?
3. What is the best to do, to make him stay in Canada till July 2018?

please help! thanks!

1) http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/extend-stay.asp
2)as a visitor cannot work but of course if qualifies for express entry or can find an LMIA sponsor can apply for either.
3)no easy answer other than (2) plus of course should not be seen as living in Canada on a visitor visa so even asking for a 9-10 month visitor extension might be a stretch. Maybe a study permit although that of course carries a big cost assuming qualifies for one.

Having Canadian children doesn't provide any advantage. He needs to meet the same requirements as anyone else.

Thank you @Buletruck but my question was can he apply for OPEN work permit or not? If his wife and kids are living in Canada.
Already answered. NO - he can't. He does not qualify for an open work permit. Having a Canadian wife and children gives him no such benefit.

He will only qualify for an open work permit once you qualify to sponsor him for PR and apply inland. If you sponsor him through the inland route and include an open work permit with the application, the will receive the open work permit approximately four months after applying. So best case scenario - you're looking at around October / November 2018.

Extend his visitor *status*, a visa only permits entry into Canada. Initial status is determined by a CBSA officer at the port of entry.

If his extension application gets denied along the way, then he will have to leave Canada.

You do have another possible option, unless you know something that we don't know. He can apply for Express Entry if he qualifies, so you may not have to wait until you qualify to sponsor him.
