Confirmation of Permanent Residency Letter Query

Hi all - I have searched the internet for the answers to my questions but not managed to find anything and I know that there are a lot of really clued up people on here who are also really generous with their time and knowledge and I am hoping you can help.

Brief history - after three years of battling through the immigration process (a couple of knock backs received along the way), I finally received my COPR letter on Friday. I did not receive the initial passport request letter through my CIC account, it was by direct email so as well as sending mine and my partners photographs by courier to the London office, I sent hard copies of the other information requested and electronic copies through a case specific enquiry form.

When I received the COPR letter, it was through my CIC account. Now, the issue I have is that this letter states that it is a Confirmation of Permanent Residency 'letter' rather than Confirmation of Permanent Residency - is this one and the same thing?
Also, I have read about people receiving two copies of information including a photograph page as well. I do not have this, I simply have the letter with instructions on how to proceed when I 'land' in Canada. Will this other information be sent back as a hard copy in the recorded delivery envelope that I provided?

Secondly, once I do land in Canada, I will be returning home to sort out sale of house etc. so it will most likely go beyond the 180 day mark for receiving the PR card. I understand that I will have to apply for a PR card in that situation, is this as rigorous and daunting a process as applying for permanent residency again or is it a simple case of an application form and fee?

Thank you for your time guys, I hope that you can help and I have contributed previously to posts on here so if anybody would like information on my journey so far, please don't hesitate to ask.

Sounds like that you applied the PR through the old process rather than Express Entry. If you can share the COPR letter that you received, it would be helpful for us to determine your situation.

The new COPRs that you have been seeing on the forum are most likely be the ones from Express Entry. And I would say that do not get confused by that and follow the instructions on your CORP letter.

As far as I know, they will start processing your PR card when you land. And according to the current time, the processing time is 61 days instead of 180.

Hi Doge,

Thank you for replying so quickly – no I applied through Express Entry – my original OINP application was refused in February 2017 so had to reapply then (under FSW) , so I assume my application is being done following new processes etc.

The letter I received starts:

Mr./Ms……..

You have now been issued your Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) form (IMM5292 or IMM5688) for you and all accompanying dependants. Do not make any corrections to the COPR. Do not sign the COPR until instructed to do so by an Immigration Officer at landing.

Please note that as of December 1, 2011, citizens of visa-exempt countries will not have a counterfoil affixed to their passport. These applicants will only be issued a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) form and an electronic foil (IMM5785). For a list of visa-exempt countries, please see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/visas.asp#exemptions.

Then there is a table with mine and my partners name with UCI numbers and Visa type but there is nothing to sign (as stated in the first paragraph of the letter).

I am hoping that this is a ‘cover letter’ and that everything else will come to me through the post? (I had to send our photographs with a return A4 envelope).

The 180 days is because once we land, we will be returning home again after a week or two. The current information states that if you do not provide a Canadian address within 180 days, you have to apply for your PR card (I don’t think we will be in a position to provide a Canadian address that quickly). I was hoping that the process for applying for the PR card is a much simpler process than applying for PR.

Thanks

Is that the full letter? Okay, I guess you may receive it through mail. This letter does not seem to be the COPR.

Hi ,,this is not COPR.

I received the same when my CIC account updated to Approved. Its an acknowledgement that COPR has been issued . Your will receive the original COPR with passports that includes major details.
