Hi all
We are located in USA and have a new born. His birth certificate which is needed for the passport is not ready yet and I received a email from CIC today saying that I should submit baby's passport in the next 30 days.
I will try my best to get a passport but incase the authorities take more time to deliver the passport, is there a way I can buy more time? or what would be the best way to go about this?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

Please refer this link https://travel.state.gov/content/passports/en/passports/information/processing-times.html. You can make an appointment at a passport agency or center and show the email from CIC. Thats a good enough proof.

I submitted application for my daughter's passport in a post office and chose expedited service and received the passport on the 9th calendar day. The additional fee is less than 100$ including the priority express mail service.

Hope this helps. Btw, how did you let the CIC know that you have new born. In my case I have all the docs ready. I created a CSE about 3 weeks back, and waiting for a response.

Thanks a lot for your response. In our application originally we had mentioned that we are expecting a baby around the delivery date given to us by doctors so that would have told CIC that a baby is due. I also submitted a Case Specific Enquiry Form and attached the birth certificate given by the hospital. I mentioned in that form that I am waiting for the authorized certificate and would apply for passport after that(response awaited).
You mentioned that you used post-office to apply for your daughter's passport, I didn't know that post offices also have a expedite option, I thought agency was my only option. I will definitely explore this more.
Thanks again.

Dear Apz, I am in a very similar situation now. I am just curious to know if you were successful in obtaining the passport on time. I am expecting our baby's birth certificate next week and I plan to apply for the passport at the earliest. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks.

If it is not going to arrive in time, you can simply ask for an extension.

Guys. I was able to receive it on time. I applied from the USPS office and it took less than two weeks under expedited service. Thanks for your feedback.
