Hello friends . i was May applicant but unfortunately i received my file back in july 24. So i shall be following june thread for latest information.

I have a Question and would appreciate if you clear my question.

In checklist page 2 point 9 - use of Representative
In it they say if sposor is contacting us on PA behalf it is mandatory to fill out form 5476.
(Else file will be sent back).

In it there is no option to select spouse as representative . What to do ? Should i select option "OTHERS"

Okay let's clear your confusion.

Checklist Page 2 Point 9: Use of Representative (IMM 5476) (Not Mandatory)

if you as a sponsor want to act on behalf of your PA, then you have to fill out this form. Act means uploading documents on behalf of PA, respond to CIC's queries or requests on behalf of PA. If you want to take your PA's responsibility then you have to become PA's representative. You will select "Uncompensated Family Member or Friend" in Form IMM 5476. It doesn't say Spouse. Just Family Member or Friend and you are Family Member in that case.

(You can not act without PA's consent given through IMM 5476 because in North America, everyone above the age of 18 years, has their own privacy and freedom. Without one's consent you can not act on behalf of them or know anything about them. That's why you need consent. However, in this case, if you act without PA's consent, CIC will not know :p. For Example, if your PA sends you PCC or Schedule A, then you can upload from your computer and know one will know but ethically you can not do that.)

Now, comes the second part. If you just want to talk to CIC regarding your PA's Application Status, or any other information related to your PA's file, then you just have to become Authorized Designated Individual for your PA's file. For that, your PA have to submit IMM 5475 to CIC. In that form, PA will make you authorized person who will receive information on behalf of PA. Good thing is that PA can submit this form anytime via Webform in case you haven't submitted it at the time of application. I would highly recommend to do that because it's easy to call from Canada in same time zone rather than from different country. Also your PA and you can put digital signature on this form or else you can Print, Sign, Scan, and Upload via Webform.

I hope this will clear your confusion. ;)

I have sent just normal photocopies of school records with date of birth and parents name on it and also included original affidavit from my spouse's father confirming date of birth... Now i am worried if they won't accept it as its not notarized or originals.. :|

Did you ever go through Complete Guide IMM 5289..? If not then let me help you with that.

The guide states that, "Check the country-specific requirements to see if you need to submit any original documents. If the country specific requirements tell you that you must submit an original document instead of a copy, you must submit the original or we will return your application."

In this case, they have asked Original Copy.

If you haven't submitted Original then at least Notarized copy would help if CIC Officer is kind enough to understand importance of Notarized copy.

Again do not panic as of now if you have just sent photocopies. Because, I have seen in previous months' Timeline excel sheets that CIC asks you to upload color copy of Original Birth Certificate on your GCKey Account. So, if they are not satisfied with your photocopies then they might ask you to upload original certificate on your CIC account or via Webforms or ask you to mail them physically instead of returning whole file back to you.:(

That is a very good explanation but there is point in #9 that your application will be returned if not filled out use of representative. What about that? If Sponsor do not want to act on anything on behalf of PA can they leave it blank?

Im the sponsor, would I need to sign it as well? If so, can I sign it, scan, then email to my wife to print, sign, scan then upload to webform?

thanks

I was wondering if someone could assist me. Are we to have two accounts one for ECAS and one for gckey? I believe I only created a gckey account where I used my banking information then I linked my spouse the PA to there. I don't see any information on the sponsor or the principle applicant. Can someone tell me how to get a ECAS account?

You don't need to create an ecas account, just put in the pertinent info it asks for and it will show you some status on your app
