There are two ways you can qualify as a refugee in Canada. The first is to obtain a TRV (tourist visa), travel to Canada and then apply for refugee status once you have arrived in Canada. Unfortunately I don't think it will be possible for you to obtain a TRV given your employment status. The second option is to move out of Yemen and to then be officially declared as a refugee by UNHCR and selected for resettlement in Canada. Unfortunately you cannot apply for refugee status while still living in Yemen.

Hey... I'm an American citizen and my husband is in yemen... how can I bring him to Canada as a refugee... I can bring him to USA but it's a long progress and I heard there's a new law or something that helps Yemeni refugees... is it true? Does anyone have any info on this topic?

There's really no special process for individuals from Yemen - although CIC does try to process these applications faster. If he wants to claim asylum from Canada, he needs to obtain a TRV (tourist visa) for Canada and travel here to claim asylum when he arrives. If he isn't successful obtaining a TRV, then he would have to relocate to another country (i.e. leave Yemen) and then be officially recognized as a refugee by UNHCR - and then identified by UNHCR for resettlement in Canada.

See this is the problem.. it's super hard for him to leave yemen and if he tries he will have to go through many bullets. It's very dangerous. Is there ANYWAY I can do it for him. I'm in USA and very close to canada.. is there anything I can do? Because he's pretty much stuck in yemen for now...

Unfortunately there's nothing you can do from him in that regard. Of course you can sponsor him, but that would be as your spouse to the US. You can't sponsor him or apply on his behalf as a refugee to Canada.

I can't suggest where he should go. However I would recommend he stay away from Saudi Arabia since I believe UNHCR doesn't operate there or operates there in very limited ways.

Just to be clear - he wouldn't start a refugee application for Canada from that country. He would go there and seek to be identified by UNHCR as a refugee. Once this is done, UNHCR would then seek to resettle him somewhere. This might be to Canada - but it could be to an entirely different country.

If there are no real barriers to you sponsoring him, other than time, why not start the process anyway. It can take years to be approved and relocated as a refugee and as mentioned, no guarantee he will be relocated to Canada.
Using Canada as a means to avoid the wait (at taxpayers expense) is a bit shady. Remember that Canada and the US share immigration information freely, so if US immigration knows of your husbands relationship to you, IRCC will know as well.

I was hoping it would be faster to get him to Canada but it seems like it's not as easy as I thought it would be.. I guess I'll just stick to USA... it will take time but it's our only chance..

Again thank u so much for your feedback. Take care.
