Hi my dear friends in this forum,

I'm now preparing my application for sponsoring my wife to Canada.
When I'm filling up the imm5532 (04-2017)E I found the Part C question 8 & 9 a little confusing.
What does the Q8 mean? What is the difference between the Q8 & Q9?

Thank you very much!

Sincerely
Micheal

Hi

I am working on applying for my spouse under family class who is currently in India and have completed my forms and documents. I was wondering if there is anything that I need to be careful about when submitting my application. Also, my spouse was earlier residing in Sweden for 6 years, first as a student and then on work permit but when he applied last year for an extension, his visa was refused.

Does that need to be noted on his sponsorship application anywhere and does that affect his process for the same?

I will also be travelling to India soon to visit him and stay there for a while. Any help with my queries will be appreciated.

Question 8: was your marriage arranged?
this is exactly as it states, was your marriage arranged for you? There are cultures that have arranged marriage. "a marriage planned and agreed to by the families or guardians of the bride and groom, who have little or no say in the matter themselves."

Question 9: Were there celebrations?.
If you are married, did you have a ceremony for celebration? If you are simply engaged did you have an engagement party with family and friends to celebrate? (my answer as common law here was "no we have not had ceremonies as there was no engagement or wedding")

In many cultures, people have ongoing relationships and plan their own weddings (aka not arranged). - and this is where you would comment on your ceremonies, and celebrations on question 9 if you had any.

Hi kailu, Thank you very much.
I'm still a little confusing about the question "was your marriage arranged"? If it's asking me "is your marriage an arranged marriage"? If this is true, I should select "No". If this question is just asking me "did you do the preparation for your marriage and did both your parents do the negotiations and reach an agreement before your marriage ?" I should say yes then give the detail. So still have a little confusing.
