Hello All,

I have a somewhat technical question, but I imagine it would probably also be of benefit to others.

Suppose that you sign your citizenship application, as well as your Online Presence Calculator Form, on Aug. 5. Can you mail it to CIC on Aug. 5? I thought I read something in this forum to the effect that you have to have one day before you mail it, meaning that if you sign it on Aug. 5, you should mail it in on Aug. 6. But, I can't remember where I read it, and can't find a source for it. So, perhaps, it is just urban legend?

Yes you can sign and date on the same date as long as you became eligible to apply the day before you sign/mail or earlier. Example: you become eligible on August 1st. You can sign and mail on August 2nd or later.

I become eligible about a week before, but I would have put August 1 as the application date on the Online Physical Presence Calculator (and as the signing date of the main application itself). Can I also mail it August 1, or is there some reason that I should wait till August 2?

you will not gain anything by waiting. Your presence will be calculated based on August 1st (any days of waiting after August 1st will not be counted if you sign "august 1st"). I would rather mail same day than wait. They can change forms, photo specifications etc.at any time, so no need fot extra headache.

Answered a question I had. I landed February 5th 2015 and I was wondering if I could mail it like February 6th 2018. I obviously will start gathering things and filling stuff out in advance but I won't sign it or anything.

You can fill out the Presence Calculator on CIC website at any time, even before you apply. Just fill in all absences, if any, and at the end you will see the message "You will be eligible to apply on XXX" where XXX is the precise date. If it shows you are eligible to apply from Feb 5th, you can sign and mail on Feb 6th or later. Those forms tend to change so it does not make much sense to start filling them months in advance. But knowing in advance which documents to submit definitely helps.

I usually do it about a month in advance. They seem to change often. But it's usually like one or two words that invalidates the whole previous form ( a waste if you ask me). The checklist generally doesn't change but sometimes it does. I try to get my ducks in a row beforehand. In my experience, the office has a hard enough time doing it properly without me adding to it. As every experience I've had with them has taken twice as long as it should have due to them losing my or my son's paperwork. Sorry, got on a rant there but it was a tad ridiculous.

Agree. Since i came here I have not had a single piece of ID with my name spelled correctly on it - and it is just 7 letters long... Better not to give an excuse for extra headache.
