Issues / Doubts relating to events after COPR

First of all congratulations to all who have received the Golden letter. I know we all have been waiting for this quite a while and took a sigh of relief when received the COPR. But the queries and doubts and questions do not end here. All those with COPR lets connect here to discuss how to proceed.

I myself have just received my COPR and am planning to make my first landing in days to come. My initial queries are:

1) The proof of funds that we need to carry. I have been told that we cannot carry more than 10,000 CAD cash. So can i carry half of my POF as cash and the rest show it as bank balance in my home country?

2) I am planning to land and then return back in 3 weeks (Before receiving the PR card). I have read in several forums that we can do so by providing a local address and than later get it couriered by that person. But what happens if the PR card is lost in process? How do we enter back

1. You can (and most people do) bring more than $10k, but you must declare it to CBSA.

2. If your PR card is lost, then you would report it as lost and apply for a new card, $50. To enter Canada by air or commercial vehicle, you will need to apply for PRTD, $50, at the nearest Canadian embassy in your country. You could also fly to the U.S. on your passport and enter Canada by land with passport and COPR if you want to avoid PRTD.

I was going through the pre-requisites of PRTD, one of them is to meet the residency obligation. An extract from CIC page:

Residency obligation
Calculating days present in Canada
If you have been a permanent resident for less than five (5) years

• you must show that you will be able to meet the minimum of 730 days of physical presence in Canada within five (5) years of the date you became a permanent resident.

How do i show this?

Further i cannot enter via US as i am a Pakistani citizen, thus will require a visa to enter US itself. Which is a much lengthier process.

Most likely your PR card will not be lost, so this is a discussion of a very remote possibility.

You will not have an issue getting PRTD and in this case you don't need to prove anything because the officer will look at your landing date and determine you have enough validity to meet RO.
