I have a question for you - my Security Screening started April 28th 2017. I requested CSIS status by fax and got response my Security Screening was finished June 12th. However, my GCMS Notes doesn't show anything on this date. All the other checks were completed before Security.
Shall I contact CIC and explain the situation? Does it look like they lost CSIS response?

vow your CSIS was quick. mine took 94 days. It means it is waiting for IRCC review since June 12th in my opinion.

Well in most cases CSIS finished in one day, so...
I don't think they are waiting for review. By phone they told me they still waiting for response. That's why I think they lost it.

Do you guys have extensive travel or worked for the government? @strength2 I'm trying to understand what are some of the factors that may lead to lengthy security screenings, I'm pretty sure our nationalities play a part.

I'll jump in, my husband doesn't have an extensive travel history and no government work, the only thing I can think of is compulsory military service when he was 18.

I can't believe nationality may play a part because then it's a total discrimination...

there is no trend. we are more than 30 people stuck at SS from Ankara. Some are women some are men, some had no military, no travel. It can be even the major you took at university or the people you published paper with or the company you worked like the example this expert gave of someone resigned from the company before but still was selected for SS. You will never know what it is. but maybe 20% of the applicants in each category are going through the intensive SS.

Does CSIS contact foreign agencies and rely on them to complete the report or the CSIS report is just based on online databases and Interpol and then IRCC will contact appropriate agencies based on the CSIS report?

No intelligence agency relies solely on foreign agencies. However, they will request information from foreign agencies to corroborate the information they have, or gather more leads on the person who is under scrutiny. It is a complicated process which involves a lot of factors, and not a simple process of reading a document.

IRCC on occasions just does not work on an application. Further, CSIS only gives an opinion, IRCC makes the final decision after reviewing CSIS's opinion. It is a complex issue. You can definitely contact IRCC, but in most cases they give a boiler plate response that they are reviewing the application.

Nationalities play a big role, believe it or not. See the last part of my notes on CSIS and the cases it has been criticized in. Most intelligence gathering starts with country, if it is a drug source country, country engulfed in civil war, political instability, prior military service and many other soft factors are present that trigger extensive scrutiny, even if there is nothing, an intelligence agency has to do its due diligence.

I don't have any governmental or military background. No travel history except the country of my origin (Russia) and residence (USA).

However, I still don't think it should be taking THAT long which really postpones our lives...

Have you ordered CSIS report? Russia actually responds quite fast - 2 days for PCC and about 1.5 months for CSIS request.

I just ordered it a week ago, but I'm pretty sure it's been completed back in April.
Whoa I didn't know Russia responds that quick! Then I really don't know what they're doing now

Well I was also surprised.
Got my CSIS report recently, CSIS Security Screening started 28th April, finished 12th June, so 1.5 months in total.
I called IRCC immediately and explained the situation to an agent, she told me to scan CSIS response and forward it to Ottawa office.
