Hi,

I have some questions on "funds" or "proof of funds" upon landing:-

- How does one show "proof" of funds? Is it all in cash?
- I am a single primary applicant so what is the min & max amount of funds that I can or should carry?
- How many maximum canadian dollars one can carry?
- How many out of this amount can be in cash?
- Other than cash in which forms can we carry the funds?

How much money should you bring?
It is a good idea to research how much it costs to live in the place where you plan to settle in Canada.

Bring as much money as you can to make moving and finding a home in Canada easier. Note, however, that Canadian customs regulations require you to declare if you are bringing more than CAN$10,000 into Canada. Well in the short-term, if you can improve your language scores to at least (L8, R7, W7, S7) you can get 25-50 more points in this section, plus 6 or more points in the first language section.

Thanks for such a great pinned post and the detailed information on Express Entry and thanks to all other members for discussing the issue faced by them as it works as a learning for everyone else.

I am interested to apply for Express Entry of Canada. I have got my ECA done from WES. Shall be writing IELTS or TOEFL soon and am sure that I will get enough score (scored above 7 in every section in IELTS previously).

My son who is 4 years old has Down's Syndrome. Most of his critical health issues are resolved and the main issue he has right now is development delay. His treatment for Development Delay is going on from an Institute in US which has great experience of treating special child and they are confident that they can treat him and can substantially reduce the gap between his brain age and calendar age. His treatment will take few more years (4-5 years) to bring him to this level. We are funding this treatment on our own and their is no support from any Insurance or Government.

In such a case can we pass through the medical requirement of Canada?

Alternatively is it possible that only I can get the PR and then I'll find a way to move my family to US so that we can save substantial cost of traveling from India to US?

Thanks for sharing your story. I'm not Raj, but I will try to answer.

1) It is difficult to say whether or not your son will be able to pass medicals or not. Only a panel physician will be able to shed light, and even he does not make the final decision. However, what I can tell you is that for on to be medically inadmissible IRCC must prove that they are:
- a risk to the Canadian population (which your son is not)
or
- cause significant financial strain to the Canadian health system (you will need to do research on this to find out the exact meaning of this as this may be a challenge)

If they have any issues with your health they will send you a procedural fairness letter detailing their concerns and giving you an opportunity to respond to them. So IMO it is easier to be admissible than inadmissible.

2) You and all your dependents must undergo medical examination (both accompanying and non-accompanying), and you will most likely not qualify for PR if one of your dependents in medically inadmissible.

2) Ideally you would need to have these details as they are critical. They use them to know if you were remunerated and if you meet the full time benchmark of 30hrs/week. So my advise is to do everything you can to get these added on. If you fail, add your payslips, give a very good explanation (including any written communication from the company) and pray.

There's no way I'll get an updated reference letter because even getting the one I have was a big pain in the, um, neck

I'll do what you suggested - add other documents (payslips, bank statements and income tax documents) to prove renumeration. I showed the same letter to Ontario and added additional documents.

Thanks for your quick reply and I am really thankful to you. So is there a way to find out whether my son will "cause significant financial strain to the Canadian health system" before I apply for the PR? It will save some time and cost for me to prepare for IELTS and other documentation. Internet research are sometime daunting and are not really helpful. Whatever search I have done till date says that people with Down's Syndrome are not granted PR in Canada (There are many references available on internet). However, I am not sure in how many of such cases people (parents/relatives) are doing something so rigorous like us to make the kid independent.

Your response has given me a hope (However, what I can tell you is that for on to be medically inadmissible IRCC must prove that they are :- a risk to the Canadian population (which your son is not)).

Another question, may be bit out of the context - do we still carry a risk of medical inadmissibility if we try for student visa?

Hi all,

I am facing a really hard situation here. My current work is started at August, 2015 with 40 hours a week. This month I found my work experience is calculated as 2 years and my score has increased, thus I got ITA. However, my work permit will expire this week. If I apply for AOR now and then apply for BOWP, will my work experience be considered as 2 years or not in the application of PR? I am going to complete my 2-year experience in the BOWP implied status.
