So I am currently under work permit inside Canada. I applied under visitor extension instead of a new visitor visa. Basically, my visa expired last year and I never left the country and I have all my work visa papers with me.

So do I wait for visitor extension (currently 90 days processing time) or should I apply for a new visitor visa inside Canada (7 day processing time) while the other application is still active.

Any experienced member ..help is much appreciated.

What exactly do you want to do? Extension of status and visitor visa are different things. The first allows you to stay in Canada for a longer period from what was originally authorized (I'm honestly not sure if you need this, depending on your work permit). The second allows you to enter Canada: getting a new visa does not allow you to stay in Canada for a longer period, it allows you to reenter Canada once you leave Canada.

Basically the second one but the application is the same form IMM5708. I need to know should I apply for a new application or wait for this one...the timeline seems a bit tight for me as the processing for extension is 95 days.

My work permit has not expired my work permit is till 2019, I needed to get a new visa as my old visa expired and I am planning to go for a trip. Now when I filled the questionnaire they gave me the form of visa extension (current processing time 95 days), instead of applying for a new visa (current processing time 7 days).

Should I now wait for 95 days or re-apply for a new visa instead of a visa extension or should I call or email them to tell about the mistake....

Basically they accepted my application for a visa extension instead of a new visa which is much faster in terms of processing. My old visa got expired in 2016. I will get the visa cause my work permit is still active for a few years, it's just that they are processing it under extension instead of a new visa application.

Actually, you have applied for the completely wrong thing. There is no such thing as a "visa extension". Instead of applying for a TRV, you have applied to change conditions and extend your stay as a visitor, meaning you have applied to change your status from worker to visitor.

You need to withdraw this application. You then need to submit the proper application for a TRV.

Go to my cic processing time

Select Applying Temporary Work, Study, Visitor

From the next dropdown there is a option called visitor extension

I think im on the same situation. Just recent applied for trv but used the wrong forms. I used imm 5708 instead of imm5257. I have a current status as a worker. Do i need to withdraw my application online and apply for a new one instead? Please advise. Anyone having the same situation. Thank you

Yes.
I notice a lot of people having this problem because of the online questionnaire. Choose Worker status > Stay in Canada more than 6 months temporarily > Canada as your current country of residence, and make sure that you answer your home country when you answer the question about which country issued your passport. This should lead you to the applications for a work permit and a TRV, and then you can continue with the TRV application.

Hi, sorry to hijack the thread but what you said is what I did, by accident, and apparently I am supposed to do this? Let me explain the timeline:

1. In the eligibility questionnaire, I chose my country to be the issuance country instead of Canada(I renewed passport here). I realized my mistake later.
2. Did IMM5257 form with the correct passport issuance country(Canada). Wouldn't let me upload, so I thought it was a bug of some sort, didn't realize mistake on 1..
3. Based on the error I changed the IMM5257 issuance country to be my country. And then it let me upload.
4. Submitted the application
5. Realized my mistake, dread incoming, done this so many times, what happened...
6. Tried the Eligibility questionnaire again to get a new code, this time with the actual issuance country(Canada). AND...
7. I'm NOT eligible for a TRV...changing the issuance country back to my country made me eligible again.

Should I remove my application(how do I do that btw), or let it process? Because seeing what you've said this is the only way I could get the correct form?

Thanks!

the actual issuance country(Canada).
If you say this, you mean you have a Canadian passport, so you obviously can't apply for a TRV.

An "actual issuance country" would be your home country, regardless of the foreign outpost that processed it.

It's not clear to me what exactly you wanted to do. Did you want to apply for a TRV? If so, and you were able to upload it, then you should be OK with the application you submitted.
