Hello,

My parents are in possession of a valid visitor visa to Canada. They recently got their passports renewed. Their existing visitor visas have been stamped on their old passports. The now have new passports, however, they are still in possession of their old expired passports. The dates of expiry are as below:

Date of expiry on new passport: 01-June-2027
Date of expiry of the visitor visa to Canada: 11-03-2018 (in old passport)

Please can you advise us if my parents are allowed to travel with their new/renewed passports along with the existing visitor visa?

That they will. My concern was if the visa is still valid or not?
If the expiry date of the Canada TRV is 11-03-2018, they are good to travel with both passports.

Renewing the passport prior to the TRV expiry does not render the visa as cancelled or invalid

I've known people, changing their status, visitor to worker (within Canada), after approval they send their passport to NYC, then they go to the border to ask for the work permit.

It is valid. Below is the official response from the Consulate:
***
If you have a valid visa for Canada in your full or expired passport, and you have been issued a new passport, you may continue to use the visa in your full or expired passport, but you will need to travel with both your new passport and the passport with the valid visa when you travel to Canada.

To avoid the necessity of traveling with both your full or expired passport and your new passport, you may wish to have the visa in your full or expired passport cancelled and a replacement visa (with the same validity) placed in your new passport. There is a fee for this service. The current fee for replacement or re-issuance of an immigration document can be found at this link on our website:

Hi nexxus007

How did you contact the Canadian consulate? I have the same question like you, but I would like to get a response from consulate and have it on email or something just in case I need it.

Thanks!

The previous poster has quoted the rules from the IRCC website. You can travel with both passports

No link to the rules from IRCC website is posted. That link is about fees. I am looking for some rules, but I don't see them. That is why I am looking to get it in written by official email.

You're stressing over something that's been done countless times. Anyways.

Here's the official proof:
https://www.canada.ca/content/dam/ircc/migration/ircc/english/resources/manuals/enf/enf04-eng.pdf

Page 73:
13.18 Valid visas in expired passports
Visa officers will not put a visa in an expired document and will not issue a visa for a period surpassing the expiry date of the passport or travel document. Occasionally, documents containing valid visas are cancelled or replaced. If a valid visa inside an expired document is presented at the POE along with a valid passport or travel document, the visa is considered valid.

BTW 'expired document' = Expired travel document = Expired/old passport

Thanks for the link. Appreciate it. You have to understand that some people probably like to do their due diligence. You are right, I read countless posts about this which say I can travel without a problem.

I had called Canadian VAC New York earlier in the day to confirm and they scared me. The lady who picked the phone call said I need to get the Visa in the new passport and the Visa in expired passport is no longer valid. This obviously surprised me, and I am looking for a concrete document that I can rely on insteady of going by hearsay on Forums. To make matters more confusing, I did read some posts about having to "transfer" visa to the new passport. Anyway, thanks again.
