Hi
I am in usa on a tourist visa. I have 4th generation of my paternal grandfather's family living in canada and they are all citizens there... so i hv 7 of my dad's siblings living there with their kids n grand kids.
I wish to seek asylum on Canadian border through vive la casa org.
Please guide me on the chances of success... procedure involved and how long does it may take for it all to complete and for me to enter canada?
And, what happens when an asylum seeker is alrdy in canada? How long does it take before the government starts the refugee grant or helps obe get a job?

Please help. Thanks a lot in advance.

You will be able to make a refugee claim at the border due to having family members in Canada who are citizens. You will need to bring proof of your relationship with them, and their contact information for CBSA to get in touch with them to verify.

As to your chances of success, how could anyone possibly advise as you've given no details on your reason for claiming asylum.

And as for governement support, Canada will not give you a grant nor will they give you a job. You will get a work permit and will be expected to find a job on your own, or to have your Canadian family provide you support.

Thank you for the response Sir.
I'm sorry but I was unclear whether you are saying your grandfather lived in Canada so I have attached the list of family members that are recognized to be able to claim exception to the safe third party agreement.

The reason for seeking asylum is that i m coming from mideast which is turning into a war zone and the economy has been badly affected due to that. I had a very good business n was a millionaire here but now down to zero..rather negative because of the fluctuating economy and uncertain political situation. I belong to pakistan whoch is also quite unstable in many respects.

These are the two basic reasons. I want to raise my kids in a safer country..and canada is most favorable since i have family there too.

It's good to know that i will get a work permit and can find a job to support myself. Can you please advise how long does it take from crossing the border to canada to having a work permit issued.

Thank you so much :)

Asylum requires that you show that you personally are in danger in your country. You need police records, hospital records etc. showing that you are under threat.

Economic troubles and wanting a safer country are not valid reasons to claim asylum.

There are so many pakistanis and other nationals who have been granted asylum based on the current situation of the middle east as well as their home countries. If you are economically insecure in a country then u can't survive there.. this is the case in mideast.
Pakistan is badly hit by terrorism, therefore it's not wise to go back.

I guess it all varies from case to case. But mideast is definitely not as good as before...especially due to yemen war and the growing issues with qatar.

Anyways.. i hope for the best. :)

Unfortunately without any specific evidence of previous threats, violence or danger against you personally, your refugee claim will have a very high chance of rejection.

Facing hard economic times or the country simply not being a desirable place to live, are in general not valid claims for refugee status.
