Going to Get Married

Hello Everyone!

I am about to lodge my ITA, according to the initial points done one the online tool I am getting 470 points. I am making an application as a "single", however, I am planning to get married at some point in the next 6-12 months. I was thinking of including my spouse in the application at the visa stage as its not possible to get married now due to financial and obvious wedding planning constraints.

1. My first question is, is it possible to include my spouse in the application after I get my ITA - if I get married after?
2. If yes, how soon do I need to get married to include my spouse in the application after I get the ITA?
3. Is it a complex process? Do I need to provide anything beyond certain forms and basic documents?
4. Will she have to do the English test?

1. Yes
2. ASAP
3. The process is the same as if you started the application as married. You will need all the same documents whether your spouse accompanies or not including PCC and medicals.
4. No.

The important cut-off is e-APR, not when you get your ITA. If you get married before, you must amend your EE profile and your points will be recalculated. If you get married after e-APR, your points will not be recalculated and you will need to add your spouse to your PR application.

Your spouse will NOT be required to do an English test.

Canuck_in_uk is right. I have done some research on this scenario and I think it goes as mentioned above.

Thanks for your response canuck_in_uk!

So just to reiterate what you have said:

It doesn't matter what my marital status is when I get the ITA, but the date that I make the e-APR.

If I am not mistaken you will be required to make the e-APR within 60 days of the ITA? Which will require me to get married within 2 months of getting the ITA, considering I am not married at that point?

If this is the case if I get married between the period of the ITA and the e-APR, would I be able to include my spouse in the application and will this affect my points?

Apologies, I think I misinterpreted your answer.

You mean to say that if I include my spouse in the application pre-eAPR that means the points will be affected and she will have to do IELTS etc. However, if she is included in the application post eAPR, she will be added to the application normally without it changing my points.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes except your spouse is not required to do IELTS regardless.

How long did it delay the application for adding spouse?

That's awesome, my situation will very likely be similar. No, I'm not married yet as will likely get married in a few months.

Wall it sure does, but not like in the past where it spans like 8minths....cos with the way cic is speeding up, it might just be within 6months.....I am at NA2 stage now and no additional document requested.

Better to send all documents and forms upfront to avoid delays.

Hi guys, anyone who has already done this... did you inform the visa department before or after you got married that you wanted to include your spouse?

Thanks!
