Are there any important steps/documentation that can be taken care of, while a candidate is waiting in the Express Entry (EE) pool, waiting for an ITA.

For instance, get the medical exam done, get police clearance, etc.?

PCC can take a while in any country, so you should work on that.

Employment reference letters from past employers can take a while, so you should contact them now. Wait to get a letter from your current employer.

Order transcripts from completed education now. Scan your degrees or order replacements now. Get your education certificates and credentials assessed now, if necessary.

Compile the exact dates of your travel history for the last 10 years now.

Compile all addresses you have lived for the last 10 years now.

Medicals should only be done after you get ITA, and this should be the last step before you submit your application. The reason is because you must come to Canada within 1 year of completing medicals and the application processing time is between 3-6 months for most applicants. Do your medicals on the day you submit your application, if possible, and use a e-medical provider for faster transmission of results.

Great points @picklee. I am in Saudi Arabia, which has these requirements for police clearance certificate. Precisely, CIC website says that:

A police certificate request letter will be sent to you by mail after your application for Permanent Residence has been received. You must present this letter, along with valid identification and proof of legal residency in Saudi Arabia to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. If they approve you, the letter will give you the address to the police headquarters where you must go and apply in person.

From the above statement, is it correct to assume that a candidate from Saudi Arabia should only apply for police clearance after he/she has received the ITA?

Another question, once you get an ITA, and you are unclear on a particular requirement, does CIC respond to you particular queries?

Can you answer the second question too, if possible?
You shouldn't count on it. If you need an answer quickly, you can call IRCC from within Canada or ask a friend to do so. But the call center agents are notoriously unreliable and inconsistent in their responses. You have better chances to get reliable information from this forum where folks have underwent similar experieneces. If you need to update your application or provide an explanation, you can submit a CSE.

Thanks again, picklee. I am not so familiar with acronyms yet. CSE stands for...?
