When to get medical?

I have already sent in my Permanent residence application and it's now being reviewed. I have booked a medical for next week but now I'm reading that it's better to wait until they ask me to get the medical? Is this correct? I was confused because post ITA there was a section to upload medical - in which I uploaded proof that I'd booked it. I'm thinking of cancelling the appointment and waiting for them to contact me.

You made a huge mistake, you were supposed to do your medicals before submitting your application. It will be returned as incomplete.

Express Entry applicants should have medicals done up front. This is why you had the option to upload the certificate the doctor gives saying that you have completed the medical exam.

There was a section during the application that said if you do not have the medical done in time you can upload proof that you have booked it.

For FSW applicants, the Meds need to be done upfront my friend. Did you do some analysis before going forward with the EE PR process?

"Exceptions are made only in rare circumstances that are outside of the client’s control (e.g., cancellation of the appointment by the panel physician at the last minute without time to reschedule).
In exceptional circumstances, IRCC may accept

  • proof that a medical appointment is scheduled; or
  • a letter of explanation of best efforts.
However, these are not a guarantee of acceptance."

With begs the question as to whether your situation can be considered an "exceptional circumstance" or not.

Thanks everyone. Yes of course I did my research but due to circumstances the medical could only be booked next Tuesday and the 90 days were up. I will let you know what the outcome is, hopefully it will help other people.

Stay positive, lets hope for the best. Meantime, get your Meds done ASAP and sent across a CSE. Good luck.
