Settlement Fund from a friend in Canada

As I will be moving to Saskatchewan in a month with my family, I will have to carry the funds that is needed to support my family i.e. $18K...
Now, I have a very good friend in Canada stays in toronto and he suggested I bring $4000 less and instead give that amount to his family in India. On my reaching to Canada he said he can give me Cash or wire transfer it. I am not sure if this can be done ?
Is it legit? If yes, do I need to divelge this information while filling immigration form....

You should be posting this question to the Express Entry or Provincial Nomination section of the forum.

If $18K is the income requirement you had to show to qualify and approved for PR, you do need to show you have this money when you arrive in Canada (it may be asked for - or it may not). So no - what your friend is suggesting won't work in that case.

Thanks scylla.... I was asked to show $18K as proof of fund. I have already got PR along with family ie my wife and 7month old infant, so I will be bringing atleast $18K with me. But what If i give $4-5K to my friends family in my home country and take that much cash/bank transfer that amount from him when in Canada... Will that be fine ?

As long as you have the $18k to show, Canadian CBSA officials won't care about the other $4-5k. That depends solely on whether you trust your friend or not.
