Supervisa soon to be expired

Hi everyone
I am looking for some advice. My mom's multiple entry visa given for 8 yrs will be expired in May 2018. She is in Canada with a visa extension that will expire in Feb 2017. Now I can not apply for an extension anymore for 2018 since the visa will be expired. Do I have to apply for a new one from scratch? Can she stay in Canada during the process? How many months in advance should I start the application before it expires?
I will be ready to sponsor her in January 2018 as well.
Please someone to advice ..

This is not true. The TRV-PG and the extension are not related.

Sorry , I meant her multiple visa entry will be expire in May 2018. Changes are edited.. Her Visa extension expires Feb 2018.

Any type of TRV (multiple, single) under any category (student, parent/grandparent, visitor, etc.) and extensions are not related.

Sorry Jalex23 I do not understand. My mom has a multiple visa entry for 8 yrs was given for that time because her passport will expire at those 8yrs as well.
Every time she enters Canada she is given 6 months , then I apply for a 1 yr extension and it has always being approved. So the one which She applied in January 2017 was approved until Feb 2018. Her multiple visa will be expired in 2018. My question is can she apply for a supervisa? Or is there a renewal for multiple entry visa? Or does it have to be started from scratch?and when do you think she should start the application 4 months before ?

Please advice me on this.. I hope you can understand my situation

Yes, she can. She needs to go to her homecountry and apply from there.

Or does it have to be started from scratch?

All TRVs (TRV-PG aka. Supervisa) have to be started from scratch.

and when do you think she should start the application 4 months before ?

All TRV applications should be filed no more than 30 days before the expiry date.
