just checked my ecas this early morning and both sponsor & applicant side are DM.

thanks gyana, profiler and everyone here. So what's next?
That means SA and AIP. You should expect to receive a DM letter anytime soon. And then, from maybe 1-8 weeks after your DM letter, you will be landing as a PR! So congratulations, you're getting close to the end!

Dont mean to be annoying, but can anybody help me out with regards my earlier enquiry quoted below;

"Hey guys, still checking to see if anybody here ever had part of their gcsm notes partially disclosed under section 15. Hope I am not a lone ranger in this regard. Very worrying."

Is it bad for my application?

@lexmark : If you requested the notes under the Privacy Act ( http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/p-21/ ) , Section 15 states:
"
Extension of time limits
15
The head of a government institution may extend the time limit set out in section 14 in respect of a request for

  • (a) a maximum of thirty days if
    • (i) meeting the original time limit would unreasonably interfere with the operations of the government institution, or

    • (ii) consultations are necessary to comply with the request that cannot reasonably be completed within the original time limit, or
  • (b) such period of time as is reasonable, if additional time is necessary for translation purposes or for the purposes of converting the personal information into an alternative format,
by giving notice of the extension and the length of the extension to the individual who made the request within thirty days after the request is received, which notice shall contain a statement that the individual has a right to make a complaint to the Privacy Commissioner about the extension.
"

It isn't likely that this is why portions were redacted.

If you requested under the Access to Information Act ( http://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/a-1/ ), Section 15 states:
"
International affairs and defence
  • 15 (1) The head of a government institution may refuse to disclose any record requested under this Act that contains information the disclosure of which could reasonably be expected to be injurious to the conduct of international affairs, the defence of Canada or any state allied or associated with Canada or the detection, prevention or suppression of subversive or hostile activities, including, without restricting the generality of the foregoing, any such information
    • (a) relating to military tactics or strategy, or relating to military exercises or operations undertaken in preparation for hostilities or in connection with the detection, prevention or suppression of subversive or hostile activities;

    • (b) relating to the quantity, characteristics, capabilities or deployment of weapons or other defence equipment or of anything being designed, developed, produced or considered for use as weapons or other defence equipment;

    • (c) relating to the characteristics, capabilities, performance, potential, deployment, functions or role of any defence establishment, of any military force, unit or personnel or of any organization or person responsible for the detection, prevention or suppression of subversive or hostile activities;

    • (d) obtained or prepared for the purpose of intelligence relating to
      • (i) the defence of Canada or any state allied or associated with Canada, or

      • (ii) the detection, prevention or suppression of subversive or hostile activities;
    • (e) obtained or prepared for the purpose of intelligence respecting foreign states, international organizations of states or citizens of foreign states used by the Government of Canada in the process of deliberation and consultation or in the conduct of international affairs;

    • (f) on methods of, and scientific or technical equipment for, collecting, assessing or handling information referred to in paragraph (d) or (e) or on sources of such information;

    • (g) on the positions adopted or to be adopted by the Government of Canada, governments of foreign states or international organizations of states for the purpose of present or future international negotiations;

    • (h) that constitutes diplomatic correspondence exchanged with foreign states or international organizations of states or official correspondence exchanged with Canadian diplomatic missions or consular posts abroad; or

    • (i) relating to the communications or cryptographic systems of Canada or foreign states used
      • (i) for the conduct of international affairs,

      • (ii) for the defence of Canada or any state allied or associated with Canada, or

      • (iii) in relation to the detection, prevention or suppression of subversive or hostile activities.
  • Definitions
    (2) In this section,

    defence of Canada or any state allied or associated with Canada includes the efforts of Canada and of foreign states toward the detection, prevention or suppression of activities of any foreign state directed toward actual or potential attack or other acts of aggression against Canada or any state allied or associated with Canada; (défense du Canada ou d’États alliés ou associés avec le Canada)

    subversive or hostile activities means
    • (a) espionage against Canada or any state allied or associated with Canada,

    • (b) sabotage,

    • (c) activities directed toward the commission of terrorist acts, including hijacking, in or against Canada or foreign states,

    • (d) activities directed toward accomplishing government change within Canada or foreign states by the use of or the encouragement of the use of force, violence or any criminal means,

    • (e) activities directed toward gathering information used for intelligence purposes that relates to Canada or any state allied or associated with Canada, and

    • (f) activities directed toward threatening the safety of Canadians, employees of the Government of Canada or property of the Government of Canada outside Canada. (activités hostiles ou subversives)
"
This sounds like it. They have involved an international partner agency (Interpol, CIA, MI-5, and "friends") to try to see if anyone else knows who you are. This is totally normal. They redact which partner agency, as they do not want to leak the sources of their information. Totally normal. Nothing to worry about.

Do you have a s.21 on the same page? Eventually, when it's complete, they will redact the entire page and just put a s.21 in the top right corner.

@pedropil I believe is landing in Winterpeg. Makes me cold just thinking about it.

So I will be interested in seeing how long it takes to get an appointment there, as Emerson is as popular as the little town south of MTL for migration.

Can you say that one more time? I got a tickle out of that :). lol!

Keep in mind a couple things:

- It's a DM -- considering I don't recall anything from your case other than you were upset because of lack of updates. This will most definitely mean a positive result. You are just waiting for a landing interview now. Processing is DONE.

- Our case, the DM letter took like a whole week. Two hours after ECAS said DM, CIC-Kitchener sent us a landing appointment for 9 days later. DM didn't come until 2 days before my wife landed. So, you may not get it right away. It could be a DM letter, or a landing appointment. And literally any time now for either.

Most important: YOU'RE DONE! They've accepted your case for a PR. All that's left is literally formalities. Pay your RPRF if you have not paid the $490 yet. Then it's time for the happy dance!

I love Winterpeg! I was lucky enough to visit it in 2007. The air is so dry there that you feel much less the cold than in Quebec city. I truly enjoyed my time there, that's a wonderful city for the curling world!
