Citizenship for Children (CIT0001) and Wife (IMM 1344/ IMM0008)

Hi everyone,

This is my first time posting here. I'm a Canadian-born citizen living in the US with my American wife. We've been married for 5 years and have 2 children (under 3 yrs) born in the US. We're trying to move over to Canada ASAP. Unfortunately I received an incomplete application for my children's CIT0001 because I left section 8B blank.

3 questions:

1) For CIT0001 - Section 8B, should I check "No" or mark "N/A" on the page? This section asks about Grandparents ("If applicants parents was born outside Canada...).

2) Should I submit my children's CIT0001 together with my Wife's IMM1344/IMM0008 outbound Application?

3) Is it fine to put a Canadian mailing address (not home address) if applying from outside of Canada?

With your birth certificate, you can move to, and work in, Canada now. Your kids are Canadian citizens, but the CBSA may or may not acknowledge that fact if you cross the border with them (without them having certificates of citizenship). However, if not, they can still enter Canada as U.S. citizens. Your wife can also enter as a U.S. citizen and stay for up to 6 months at a time. However, she would not be able to work in Canada until her paperwork is processed. Also, your wife (and possibly children...you would have to check with the provincial heath system) would not qualify for provincial health care. My point is, if you really want to move to Canada immediately, you can likely do so, and then do the paperwork from here.

If you want to do everything before your move, be aware that your children's applications may qualify for urgent processing:

I think there is a misunderstanding here. The latest policy I know is that for minors born in the States to at least one Canadian parent, they cannot apply for the temporary Canadian passport at the Canada consulate in the States. They have to apply for Canadian Citizenship Certificate first (whether they are applying in US or in Canada, the application will be processed within Canada).
For minors born outside USA, they can apply for a temporary Canadian passport in a short period of time because they may need passports to enter Canada.

For US-born Canadian minors, they can just enter Canada either with their long form birth certificate (by land only) or with their US passport.(CIC website states that American Canadians can enter Canada with their US passport)

Then what the OP has to do is to apply Canadian Citizenship Certificate for his kids. After getting Certificates, his kids can then apply the Canadian passport/health insurance/SIN etc.

My wife and I just went through similar situation. Our son was born in the States this summer and my wife is a naturalized Canadian citizen. We had to bring him back to Canada shortly after he was born. So we applied and got his US passport as soon as possible and flew back to Canada. The custom didn't even ask our any questions about our son's citizenship.
Right now we are just about to apply for our kid's Citizenship Certificate to get him Canadian passport/SIN/health insurance.

I mentioned in my original post that the application was returned due to being incomplete. The incomplete parts were marked with a highlighter and the application was stamped with "Received on May XX".

Should I simply complete the missing info on the original application or send a new printed application?

I was also hoping to change the mailing address, so if I am to send in the original application, I was going to add a cover letter explaining the mailing address change.

Send the same forms back after filling in the missing sections........bcaz its already stamped by them they'd want the same one back.
Sending a new one can cause confusion

Just wondering what kind of ID of your kids are you providing to CIC?
I noticed they require two pieces of ID for minors.
Right now we have the kid's birth certificate (US long form), SSN card, US passport book and US passport card. Not sure which two should I provide to the CIC.

We sent official birth certificates because notaries in California would not make certified copies (since it's a vital records document). Whatever documents are sent will not be returned, so we ordered another one from our county's public records clerk.

We later found out that the consultant made a few mistakes in the forms of both my wife and children. The CIC online status still shows in process. They have also not asked for any clarification or further information. I would appreciate if someone can advise the best course of action now. Should we wait for the test date or any communication from CIC or we inform CIC about the errors and send the new application acknowledging the errors made by the consultant in the applications.

You need to inform IRCC of the mistakes now.

Also, you can't blame it on the consultant. It was entirely your responsibility to ensure that the applications had the correct information.
